Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest car manufacturer and was established in 1981. It was founded by Sanjay Gandhi back then and is currently headed by RC Bhargava who is the company’s Chairman. CV Raman is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Maruti.
Maruti Suzuki has two manufacturing plants in Haryana - Gurugram and Manesar. There is a new unit upcoming in Kharkhoda as well. Another plant is also functional in Gujarat which is fully owned by Suzuki Motor Corporation. At present, Maruti Suzuki has over 1,400 showrooms across 513 cities in the country.
After it entered the country, the first model to be launched was the Maruti Suzuki 800 and competed with the HM Ambassador. At launch, the Maruti 800 cost Rs. 52,000 with multiple dealers available in Delhi. Maruti Suzuki all cars manufactured on two different platforms, namely HEARTECT and Global-C.
Maruti Suzuki sells 17 car models in the country in multiple body styles including hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and MPVs. Maruti sells Alto K10, S-Presso, WagonR, Baleno,Ignis and Swift in the hatchback category, The company’s sedan line-up includes two models namely Dzire and Ciaz. The Maruti Suzuki SUV line-up includes Fronx, Grand Vitara, Brezza and Jimny. In the MPV segment, MSIL sells Ertiga and Invicto in the MPV category. There are 3 types of Maruti Suzuki engines available in the market including petrol, hybrid and CNG.
The new fourth-generation Suzuki Swift is the latest Maruti launch in the Indian market. Before that, the company launched the Fronx crossover, Grand Vitara and Jimny SUVs.
Popular Maruti Suzuki car models are the Alto K10, Wagon R, Swift, Baleno and Grand Vitara. They are priced aggressively in line with the competition with the new Swift coming at an introductory price of Rs. 6.49 lakh, ex-showroom. Maruti has entirely stopped manufacturing diesel cars and sells petrol, hybrid and CNG powertrains now.
Upcoming cars from Maruti Suzuki include the eVX, eWX, Wagon R EV, Swift hybrid, Dzire and Grand Vitara 7-seater. The company will enter the electric vehicle space with the eVX based SUV in 2025.
