We informed you earlier that Honda Cars India will launch 10 new cars, including 7 new SUVs, Prelude Sports Coupe and the next-gen City sedan. A new media report claims that the next-gen Honda City sedan will be launched in our market in 2028. The new model will be based on an all-new hybrid platform, and will carry an all-new Design.
The report claims that the next-gen City sedan could borrow design cues from Honda’s radical 0 Series sedan concept that debuted at the recently concluded 2025 Japan Mobility Show. Not just the new City, Honda’s next gen sedans across the board are expected to borrow design from the new 0 Series sedan.

With bolder and more sophisticated looks, the sixth generation Honda City would aim to regain its lost position against the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus. The report claims that the early design mock-ups of the new City presents a clear visual links to the 0 Series sedan. The next City is expected to get a front quarter glass inspired by the iconic Lamborghini Countach. However, it won’t receive a ‘pop-up’ headlamps.
The next-gen Honda City is expected to be based on the new midsize hybrid platform, which was recently revealed by Honda. This platform is engineered for small and midisize cars an SUVs, and first model on this architecture will be launched in 2027.
The new midsize hybrid platform is claimed to be around 90kgs lighter than Honda’s current hybrid base. This will help in improving efficiency and performance. More than 60 percent of components will be shared across Honda cars based on the new hybrid platform, which will help in achieving competitive pricing.
The next-gen Honda City will have a high-level of local components, and is expected to carry a more aggressive price tag. It is expected to be offered with both petrol and hybrid powertrains. The petrol engine is the same 1.5L NA petrol engine, which is likely to be upgraded to meet the stringent CAFE 3 emission norms. The hybrid version could get the upgraded version of the 1.5L Atkinson-cycle hybrid unit that uses two electric motors and an e-CVT.
