Tata Motors has officially announced that it will launch 7 new nameplates and 23 model updates by FY2030. The company will introduce the Sierra, 2 new products under the Avinya nameplate, 2 brand-new EVs and 2 new ICE models. Adding to it, the existing models will witness several new upgrades, including additions of new powertrains and facelifts. The Tata Harrier nameplate will soon receive a new petrol engine, which will make it the new model to come with three engine choices.
Tata Motors has recently launched the Harrier EV at an introductory price tag of Rs 21.49 lakh, ex-showroom. The prices of high-end variants are expected to be released in July 2025. In fact, official bookings will commence from July 2, 2025. Tata Motors will further expand the Harrier line-up by adding a petrol engine.
Tata Motors has already started testing the petrol-powered Harrier SUV on Indian roads. This mid-sized SUV will receive a new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, which was first unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. This new powertrain will also power the Safari and the upcoming Tata Sierra lifestyle SUV.
The new 1.5-litre TGDi direct injection turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 168bhp at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 280Nm between 2,000 and 3,500rpm. It will be mated to manual and automatic gearboxes.
Tata Motors has acquired the development rights for the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder Kryotec diesel engine from Stellantis. If reports are to be believed, the homegrown SUV maker is preparing a more powerful version of this powertrain. The diesel engine could be tuned to produce around 180bhp and around 400Nm of torque. In the current form, the powertrain produces 170bhp and 350Nm. A detuned version of this engine could find its place in the upcoming Tata Sierra.
The Tata Harrier EV is available with two battery choices - 65kWh and 75kWh. While the former is available with a rear-axle-mounted electric motor, the 75kWh battery version is offered with both QWD (Quad-wheel-drive) and rear-wheel-drive configurations. The SUV is claimed to offer an instantaneous torque of 504Nm.
The electric motor in the RWD set-up offers 235bhp. In the all-wheel-drive, branded as QWD, system, the front and rear-axle-mounted electric motors offer a combined power output of 391bhp. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 6.3 seconds.
Using a 120kW DC fast charger, the Harrier EV’s battery can achieve 20-80 percent charging status in just 25 minutes. The Harrier 75kWh RWD version is claimed to offer an ARAI-certified range of up to 627km (MIDC cycle), while the AWD version offers a certified range of up to 623km. The company claims that the Harrier EV will deliver around 480km to 505km of realistic range.
The SUV gets a multi-link rear suspension set-up for better on-and off-road performance. It offers 6 terrain modes - Snow, Sand, Rock-Crawl, Mud Ruts, Custom and Normal.
