Maruti Suzuki WagonR vs Tata Tiago: CNG and Petrol Comparison

Maruti Suzuki WagonR and the Tata Tiago both are among the best-selling vehicles in their respective brands’ line-ups. While the Tiago is a fairly new model (launched in 2016), the Wagon R has been on the market for over 2 decades (launched in 1999). Both hatchbacks are good options for anyone in search of a spacious, frugal and feature packed hatchback at a competitive pricing. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Tata Tiago – Pricing

In terms of pricing, the base variant of the Tata Tiago undercuts the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R by around Rs 8,000. The pricing for the Tiago starts at Rs 5.39 lakh (ex-showroom) for the manual variant and goes up to Rs 6.69 lakh (ex-showroom), while the automatic is priced between Rs 6.70 lakh and Rs 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom). 

The pricing for the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R starts at Rs 5.47 lakh (ex-showroom) and extends to Rs 7.19 lakh (ex-showroom). In the mid-range variants both hatchbacks are similarly priced in the Rs 6 and Rs 7 lakh. However, the biggest difference in pricing is seen at the top end where the WagonR becomes more budget friendly than the Tiago by almost Rs 60,000.

Once again in the CNG powertrain option, the Tiago undercuts the WagonR at the base but becomes more dearer than the Maruti at the top-end. The Tiago is more expensive than the WagonR by Rs 1,00,000 at the top-end.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Tata Tiago: Powertrain

Moving to powertrains, both the Maruti Wagon R and the Tata Tiago offer petrol and CNG-powered variants to the customers. You get a choice of 2 petrol engine option with the Wagon R (1.0-litre- LXI and VXI, 1.2-litre ZXI) while the Tiago makes do with a single petrol engine option (1.2-litre Revotron). Both cars are available with a choice of 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox option.

The CNG option is available with the 1.0-litre engine on the WagonR while it is available with the 1.2-litre on the Tiago. In both comparisons, the Tiago produces more power and more torque than the Maruti Suzuki hatchback. 

Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Tata Tiago: Mileage

Both hatchbacks are quite frugal machines. The Maruti Wagon R returns a claimed mileage of 24.35 kmpl in the manual guise and 25.19 kmpl in the automatic guise. Due to its larger engine, the Tiago returns a claimed figure of 20 kmpl in the petrol models. Coming to the CNG department, the WagonR returns 34.05 km/kg while the Tiago returns a lowly 26.4 km/kg.
