Japanese premium automaker Lexus Cars has just released a teaser image for its upcoming EV concept. The brand says that the new electric concept, which is slated to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show next month, will have a total range of 800 km per charge. Lexus EV Concept: What We Know So Far Lexus has stated that the upcoming concept will "revolutionise the modular structure of the vehicle body, drastically change the production method, and completely revamp the software platform". The preview model will be Lexus’ first step on the road to electrifying their entire lineup by 2035. Lexus also becomes the latest automaker to show off their EV concept, following the likes of the Mercedes Concept CLA and the BMW Neue Klasse. The teaser revealed the Lexus EV concept to have a low-slung design with design elements similar to the concept Lexus showcased back in 2021. Lexus says that the design is "thoroughly focused on Lexus characteristics". Some of the design highlights we noticed on the teaser include new headlights, cameras instead of ORVMs, and a sharp front profile similar to the LFA supercar. Lexus EV Concept: Powertrain Details The Lexus EV concept will use Toyota’s new lithium-ion battery tech that offers more efficient battery chemistry, allowing for slimmer battery packs. The brand promises a range of over 800 km on a single charge from the new battery. Parent company Toyota has stated that it is also planning for the new battery pack to be offered with a 'High Performance' solid-state battery option, which could increase the claimed range to over 1,000km on a single charge. Lexus EV Concept: New Production Technique Alongside the EV concept, Lexus will also preview a new car construction approach. It is likely to be based on Toyota’s idea to integrate the propulsion, steering, and suspension systems into cost-efficient and space-saving units. Lexus says the design is "thoroughly focused on Lexus characteristics". The production model of the concept EV is slated to launch around 2026, and will rival the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and BMW i4. Lexus Cars has just announced that it will be launching the new second-gen LM in India soon. The automaker has started accepting bookings and also revealed the first set of details about the new MPV. Unlike the previous LM, which was sold exclusively in the Chinese market, the new model will be sold in multiple global markets, including India. New Lexus LM: Exterior Styling While the Lexus LM and the new Vellfire are based on the same platform, both models are clearly distinguished from each other. The 2023 LM’s front end gets Lexus’ trademark spindle grille, slim LED headlights and vertical fog lamp housings finished in silver. Moving to the side, the large glasshouse features a slight kink at the B-pillar while the subtle creases help break the slab-sided profile monotony of the LM. At the rear, it has a comparatively minimal design with a boomerang-shaped LED light bar as the major highlight. New Lexus LM MPV: Interior Design and Features Lexus will offer both 4- and 7-seater configurations on the LM in India. The former gets a partitioned area between the driver and passenger area with reclining rear seats, pillow-style headrests, a 23-speaker audio setup and a 48-inch TV. It also gets heated armrests, electric ottomans, fold-out tables, wireless charging, a fridge and an umbrella holder among others. Lexus also offers a motorized dimmable glass panel that can be raised or lowered. The new LM gets a new voice control system that Lexus states is the first of its kind that caters to rear passengers specifically. Meanwhile, an overhead console controls the door, cabin temperature and storage compartments. The rear passengers also get a smartphone-style panel that can adjust the climate, interior lighting, window blinds, audio settings, and seat functions. At the front, the driver gets a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic view monitor, and a digital rear-view monitor. New Lexus LM: Powertrain Details Lexus offers the LM with a single hybrid powertrain option globally. The LM 350h is powered by a strong-hybrid unit that pairs a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine with two electric motors, making a combined output of 250 bhp with 239 Nm of max torque. Transmission duties are handled by an e-CVT automatic gearbox. The automaker is also slated to introduce a more powerful LM500h variant at a later stage. New Lexus LM: Pricing While Lexus is expected to reveal the price for the new MPV during the first week of September, we expect the LM to be priced above the Toyota Vellfire, its sibling. The recently launched Vellfire is priced between Rs 1.2 crore (ex-showroom) - Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom). This means the all-new Lexus LM will be priced at around Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom).
