Denza D9

Chinese car manufacturer, BYD, is planning to introduce its luxury brand DENZA in the Indian market. The Denza D9 luxury MPV will be the first model under the new nameplate. The new model is likely to be retailed through separate dealership network under the Denza nameplate. It will initially come as a CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit), but the company could opt for a CKD route at a later stage. The MPV is most likely to be offered as an electric model, but a plug-in hybrid version is also under consideration.

Denza D9 Launch Date

BYD is planning to launch the Denza D9 luxury MPV in the Indian market by Diwali 2026. However, the launch could be pushed to 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. 

Denza D9 Expected Price

The D9 is expected to be positioned somewhere between the MG M9 Electric and the Toyota Vellfire strong hybrid. We expect the Denza D9 to price somewhere around Rs 90 lakh, ex-showroom.

Key Features

The Denza D9 MPV is likely to be offered as a 7-seater model with 2+2+3 seating layout. In terms of proportions, the MPV is 5,250mm long, 1,960mm wide and 1,920mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,110mm. The MPV is longer, wider and has a larger wheelbase than the Toyota Vellfire, but it is shorter than the MG M9.

In terms of features, the D9 MPV is packed with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-way electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation and massage functions, 3-zone climate control, a 14-speaker Dynaudio audio system, a 12-inch head-up display, an air purifier, an electrically operated tailgate and sliding rear doors, a wireless phone charger and others.

The second-row captain seats are 10-way power adjustable with memory, ventilation and massage functions. Other features include powered boss mode, a refrigerator, retractable tables, LED displays integrated within armrests, and others.

The safety features include multiple airbags, surround-view camera, ESC, traction control, hill hold control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, driver fatigue warning and distraction detection and an advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite.

Engine Specifications

The Denza D9 is packed with a 103.63 kW battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor offering 314 hp and 360 Nm of torque. It also gets a dual-motor AWD version, which offers a combined power and torque output of 373 hp and 470 Nm, respectively. The FWD version is claimed to offer an NEDC-claimed range of 600 km, while the AWD version delivers a claimed range of 580 km. The Denza D9's battery supports up to 166 kW DC fast charging.

Competition

The Denza D9 will compete against the luxurious MPVs, including the MG M9 electric and the Toyota Vellfire strong hybrid.
