Denza D9 will be the first model in India BYD’s luxury brand DENZA will make India debut on November 13
Chinese automaker BYD will finally reveal its luxury brand, the Denza, for the Indian market on 13 November. The company will also present its product and retail strategy for India. It is expected that the Denza D9 MPV will be the first model from the Chinese luxury carmaker. This luxury people carrier will take on the likes of the MG M9, Kia Carnival, Toyota Vellfire, Lexus LM and the Mercedes-Benz V-Class.
It is expected that the Z9 GT shooting brake will be the second Denza in the Indian market. Both models will be offered with electric powertrains and will mainly target tier-1 and tier-2 cities. For people not in the know, Denza was first introduced in 2010 as a JV between BYD and Mercedes-Benz Group. BYD completely bought the Denza luxury brand stakes from Mercedes in 2024. The company currently has presence in markets like Southeast Asia, China, Australia, Europe and Latin America. It is currently selling EVs and plug-in hybrids.
Estimated to be priced somewhere between Rs 90 lakh and Rs 1 crore, the Denza executive MPV will be positioned between the MG M9 and the Toyota Vellfire in the luxury MPV category. The company will introduce the electric derivative of the MPV in India, as EVs attract 5 per cent GST while PHEV attracts 28 per cent GST.
The Denza D9 measures 5250mm in length, 1960mm in width and 1920mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3110mm. The MPV has a luggage carrying capacity of 410-litres, which can be extended up to 2310-litres by folding the rear seats. It is packed with a 103.36 kWh battery pack with a front-mounted electric motor, offering 308 hp and a peak torque of 360 Nm. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 9.5 seconds, and offers a pure EV range of up to 600 km on a single charge.

The electric fastback comes with a triple-motor setup and offers a massive 1156 hp. The EV is packed with a 122.5 kWh battery pack, and the triple electric motor offers a peak torque of 1,210Nm. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 2.7 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 270kmph. Some of the key features include frameless windows, 21-inch alloys, large rear diffuser, active rear-wheel steering, self-parking and Disus-A dual-chamber air suspension.
