JSW Motors Jaecoo J5

JSW Motors is set to enter the passenger vehicle market through a partnership with Chery Automobile – one China’s largest automaker and the parent company to brands such as iCar, Omoda, Jaecoo and Jetour. Under this JV, JSW plans to introduce the Jetour T2 PHEV SUV, Jaecoo J5 electric SUV, Jaecoo J7 PHEV and iCar V23 electric SUV. Recently, a test mule of the Jaecoo J5 was spied testing in India, hinting at the company’s intention to launch the product in the domestic marekt.

JSW Jaecoo Launch Date

As of now, there is no official word on its India launch timeline. However, the J5 electric SUV is expected to hit roads after the Jetour T2 PHEV, which is slated to arrive during the 2026 Diwali season. The J5 could initially be brought in as a CKD unit and assembled at JSW Motors’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility. The carmaker might consider its localisation at a later stage.

Jaecoo J5 Expected Price in India

The upcoming Jaecoo midsize electric SUV is expected to be priced at around ₹20.00 Lakhs* for the base variant, and nearly ₹25.00 Lakhs* for the top trim.

Key Features

Based on the brand’ “From Classic, Beyond Classic” design philosophy, the Jaecoo J5 features premium and minimalist styling. Upfront, the SUV features the familiar vertical waterfall grille, slim LED headlamps, large side air intakes and a sculpted bumper. The side profile appears boxy with strong shoulder lines, floating roof effect by blacked-out pillars, squared wheel arches, 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels and roof rails. At the rear, the SUV sports slim full-width LED taillamps, illuminated Jaecoo branding integrated into the light bar, a wide roof spoiler and clean tailgate surfaces.

The J5 adopts a minimalist approach for interior as well. It offers a massive 14.8-inch portrait touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, floating waterfall-style centre console, two-spoke steering wheel, a larger panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pad, a 540‑degree camera system, powered and ventilated front seats, 6 airbags and Level 2 ADAS.

Engine Specifications

In global markets, the J5 is available with both hybrid and full-electric powertrains. However, JSW Motors is likely to introduce the SUV in India only with an electric setup. Its electric iteration features a 60.9kWh battery pack paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor, generating power worth 210bhp and 288Nm of torque. With this setup, the EV delivers a claimed NEDC range of 461km on a single charge. It supports DC fast charging up to 130kW, and can accelerate 0‑100kph in 7.3 seconds.

Competition

In the midsize electric SUV segment, the new Jaecoo J5 will face challenge from the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6 and Vinfast VF 6.
