MG Hector Tomahawk

JSW MG Motor India has launched its new 7-seater SUV, the Hector Tomahawk with an electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The Hector Tomahawk EV is positioned above the Windsor EV in MG India's EV line-up, and is available at a starting price of ₹19.50 Lakhs*, ex-showroom. The company has announced the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme for the Hector Tomahawk EV, which starts at Rs 13.99 lakh with a battery rental of Rs 4.90 per kilometer. It is the first model from the company to be based on the new ADAPT platform. The Hector Tomahawk EV gets a 69.2 kWh battery pack and offers a claimed range of up to 517 km on a single charge. 

Hector Tomahawk EV Price in India

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is available in three trim levels - Excite, Exclusive and Essence - and in total of 4 variants. The Hector Tomahawk price starts at ₹19.50 Lakhs* and extends up to ₹23.50 Lakhs* for the top-of-the-line variant. All the prices are ex-showroom, Pan India. The SUV's 7-seater version BaaS price starts at Rs 13.99 lakh and extends up to Rs 17.49 lakh. The only 5-seater Essence variant BaaS price is Rs 16.99 lakh + Battery rental of Rs 4.90/km. 

Key Features

Based on the MG's ADAPT platform, the MG Hector Tomahawk EV looks largely identical to the Wuling Starlight 560 on sale in select global markets. It comes with LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and an illuminated MG logo, and an EV-like closed-off front. The SUV rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. It gets roof rails, black cladding around the wheel arches and lower door sill area, and chrome window line. At the rear, the SUV gets wraparound LED tail-lamps and a sculpted bumper, and a powered tailgate. 

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV gets a dual-tone brown-and-black dashboard along with soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door pads. Except for the few AC buttons, most of the functions are operated through the touchscreen and gesture controls. It is packed with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen infotainment unit, and an 8.8-inch digital instrument console. The electric SUV gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and gesture controls for the AC and audio system.

In terms of features, the SUV gets ventilated front seats, 6-way power adjustable driver seat with memory function, a 4-way adjustable co-passenger seat, a panoramic sunroof, 256-colour ambient lighting and a 10-speaker Infinity sound system. Other additions include roof-mounted AC vents for rear passengers, sunblinds, dual USB Type-C charging ports, and leatherette upholstery. 

Safety Features

The SUV gets six airbags as standard. It is packed with a 360-degree surround view camera setup with transparent-chassis and wheel-view functions. The Hector Tomahawk EV gets ADAS LEVEL 2 with 11 functions, including lane-departure warning and prevention, forward-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, high beam assist and others.

Dimensions and Boot Space

The new MG Hector Tomahawk EV measures 4745mm in length, 1850mm in width and 1770mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2810mm. The SUV offers a ground clearance of 230-litres, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions. The five-seater version offers a boot space of 610-litres, while the seven-seater model has a standard boot space of 192-litres which can be extended by up to 550-litres by folding the third-row seat.

Colour Options

The Hector Tomahawk EV is available with 5 exterior colour options, including Pearl White, Celdaon Blue, Khaki Green, Aurora Silver, and Starry Black. 

Battery Specifications and Range

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is packed with a 69.2 kWh battery pack paired with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The electric motor produces 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer a MIDC range of 517km on a single charge. The company claims that the SUV can accelerate to 100kmph from zero in 8.2 seconds.

The EV battery can support DC fast charging at up to 90kW. Using a 90kW DC charger, the battery can achieve 30-80 percent charging status in around 35 minutes. With a standard 7.4kW AC charger, the battery can achieve 10 to 100% charging status in around 12.5 hours.

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) functions. It also supports vehicle to home (V2H) function, which allows the user to use the battery to provide electricity to home in case of power cut.
