MG Starlight 560

JSW MG Motor plans to expand its Indian product portfolio with six new models scheduled to launch between 2026-2027, including the brand’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. Codenamed ‘520’, the new MG plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV is expected to be based on the China-spec Wuling Starlight 560. However, it could be introduced under a new nameplate in India. MG might also introduce an EV iteration of the SUV at a later stage.

MG’s Starlight 560 will be a mass-market plug-in hybrid offering, with estimated price range of around Rs ₹18.00 Lakhs*  for the base variant to ₹25.00 Lakhs* for the top-end trim.

Key Features

The India-bound MG Starlight 560 is likely to look exactly similar to the Wuling Starlight sold in China, expect ‘MG’ badging inside and out. The SUV carries a boxy and upright stance with a large blacked-out grille, LED headlamps with LED DRL strips running above and below them and a sporty bumper with a pronounced skid plate element.

The side profile looks muscular, thanks to 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, cladding on the lower sections, roof rails and squared-off wheel arches. The rear section has a slightly MPV-ish styling with a roof-mounted spoiler and LED taillamps. The overall length, width and height stand at 4,745mm, 1,850mm and 1,755mm, respectively.

Similar to the global spec version, the India-bound Starlight 560 is expected to be offered in both 5 and 7-seats configuration options. Inside, the SUV features an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, a massive 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a two-spoke steering wheel, a 6-speaker audio system, automatic climate control and several other premium features.

Engine Specifications

The powertrain specifications of the India-bound MG Starlight 560 PHEV are still under the wraps. In global markets, the Wuling Starling is offered with both plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrain options. The PHEV version features a 106bhp, 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack and a FWD (front-wheel drive) system. Its combined output stands at 197bhp and 230Nm.

The Starlight PHEV offers a claimed pure electric range of 100km and a total range of 1,100km, as per the CLTC. The SUV does 0 to 100kmph sprints in 9.7 seconds and offers a top speed of 170kmph.

The Wuling Starlight EV features a 56.7kWh battery pack paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor, delivering power worth 136bhp and 200Nm of torque. This setup offers a claimed range of 500km per charge.

Competition

In terms of pricing and positioning, the MG Starlight 560 is expected to take on the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. Its electric iteration is likely to go against the Mahindra XEV 9S.
