In 2023, several notable electric vehicles were launched in the base to mid-to-premium segments, catering to a wide spectrum of consumer preferences and budgets. Here is a list of a few eminent EV launches of 2023 in India MG Comet: Launched on 26 April 2023 The MG Comet EV is MG Motor's second electric vehicle offering in India, following the success of the ZS EV. The Comet is essentially a rebranded version of the Wuling Air EV, which is MG's sister brand internationally. Sporting a compact and boxy design, the Comet EV features a two-door layout and can comfortably accommodate up to four passengers. Its dimensions measure approximately 2974 mm in length, 1505 mm in width, and 1640 mm in height, and it boasts a wheelbase of 2010 mm. With a remarkably tight turning circle radius of just 4.2 meters, manoeuvring in urban environments becomes hassle-free. The price of MG Comet EV starts at Rs. 7.98 Lakh and goes up to Rs. 9.98 Lakh. Powering the MG Comet is a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that claims to offer an impressive range of 230 kilometres on a single charge. The battery has undergone rigorous testing, passed 16 safety assessments, and is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance. The Comet is equipped with an electric motor that delivers 41 bhp of power and 110 Nm of torque, ensuring responsive and efficient performance. HYUNDAI IONIQ 5: Launched on 11 January 2023 Launched at the Auto Expo 2023, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an innovative electric vehicle that combines futuristic design with cutting-edge technology. With its sleek and aerodynamic exterior, the Ioniq 5 exudes a sense of modernity and sophistication. The spacious and luxurious interior offers a comfortable and eco-friendly driving experience, with features such as vegan leather upholstery and a customizable digital cockpit. The Ioniq 5 gets its power from a 72.6kWh battery. Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric motor is capable of producing 217 bhp/350 Nm of torque. The 2023 Ioniq 5 is also capable of supporting superfast 800V charging, which can charge the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric SUV is priced at Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). There is a single variant on offer. Additionally, it offers a single-pane sunroof, advanced connected car technology, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. Safety is prioritized with up to six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels for enhanced braking performance, and an IP67 rating for the battery pack, ensuring protection against dust and water ingress. Furthermore, the inclusion of ISOFIX anchors ensures the secure and convenient installation of child seats. CITROEN eC3: Launched on 28 February 2023 Citroen, the renowned French automaker, has made its entry into the Indian electric vehicle market with the introduction of its first electric vehicle, the C3 EV. The Citroen C3 EV is a stylish and efficient electric vehicle that combines practicality with a modern design. With its sleek lines and distinctive features, the C3 EV stands out on the road. The C3 EV features a spacious and comfortable interior, offering ample legroom and cargo space for passengers. The C3 EV is offered at a starting price of Rs. 11.50 lakh and goes up to Rs. 12.43 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in four distinct variants. The Citroen C3 EV is equipped with a 29.2 kWh battery pack, delivering an impressive, claimed range of 320 kilometres on a single charge. Its electric motor showcases capable performance, generating 57 bhp of peak power and 143 Nm of maximum torque. Accelerating from 0 to 60 kmph in just 6.8 seconds, the E-C3 EV offers swift acceleration, reaching a top speed of 107 kmph. The Citroen C3 EV offers a range of features including a 10.2-inch touchscreen, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a four-speaker music system, a height-adjustable driver seat, and MyCitroen Connect app enabling connected vehicle technology. This feature allows users to conveniently locate their car, track its current location, and easily find nearby charging stations. Morris Garages or MG as it is better known is a British automotive marque which was founded in the 1920s by Cecil Kimber. The company was known for manufacturing British sports cars that made the brand famous. Over the years, the company's ownership changed hands across different business conglomerates to being currently owned by the Chinese automotive manufacturer SAIC Motor. In India, MG Motor made its way through Hector SUV and grabbed tons of attention from customers. Post that, the company continued to introduce SUV based models like the Astor and Gloster. Let's take a quick look at MG car's history in India along with its current product lineup.  MG Entry into India MG Motor India is a subsidiary of Shanghai-based Chinese automaker SAIC Motor which sells its vehicles under the banner of the British marque. The subsidiary was set up in 2017, with its sales and manufacturing operations starting back in 2019. MG cars are produced at the company’s production facility located at Halol, Gujarat. Since January 2023, the brand is determined to support localisation. To make this attempt possible, MG decided to raise capital to fund its expansion in India by tapping into the Indian capital market and reducing its shareholding of parent organization SAIC. MG’s First model for the Indian Market MG Motor India released its first product, MG Hector in June 2019. The mid-size SUV was based on SAIC Motor's Baojun 530 model. It was launched in the country with a starting price of Rs 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base trim and for the top-end variant, the price went up to  Rs 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom). MG Hector quickly reaped success as it is a spacious 5-seater SUV that offers features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Over-the-Air (OTA) software update. Further, the Hector continued to be the best-selling car from the brand in MG's India lineup. Later, Hector received cosmetic upgrades that impressed its audience. MG Motor India has just launched its second Blackstorm edition model in the country. The new MG Astor Blackstorm is priced at Rs 14.48 lakh (ex-showroom) and features a host of black cosmetic update that adds to the compact SUVs sporty look. MG Astor Blackstorm: Exterior & Interior Updates Finished in an all-new black matte exterior paint scheme, the 2023 MG Astor offers a sinister look. Upfront all chrome has been replaced with black elements including an all-new black honeycomb grille. Other new elements include black finish to the LED Hawkeye headlamp, Blackstorm emblem on the front fender and black alloy wheel with red brake callipers. While the interior layout remains similar to the regular Astor, the new model is provided with Tuxedo black upholstery with red stitching and new JBL speakers. MG Motor India has just revealed the first teaser of the upcoming MG Astor Black Storm edition ahead of its launch tomorrow. While it will remain mechanically similar to the regular model, MG will offer a number of cosmetic updates both inside and outside on the new limited edition Astor. MG Astor Black Storm Edition: What’s New? The new MG Astor Black Storm offers a unique Starry Black exterior colour along with an all-new blacked-out front grille. Also new to the car are the gloss black alloy wheels and red brake callipers. Similar to the MG Gloster Black Storm, the new Astor will also wear Black Storm badges on the front fenders. Moving inside, the new Black Edition model is expected to feature a full black cabin with red highlights on the seats, dashboard and door handles. Since it is based on the Astor’s top Savvy trim level, the Black Edition will come loaded with features like a 10.1-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, digital instrument cluster, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, wireless charging, auto climate control, ambient lighting, electric sunroof, and more.
