New MG EV to Launch in August 2026: Mahindra XEV 9S Rival

MG to launch Wuling Eksion-based EV in India To rival Mahindra XEV 9S Plug-in Hybrid SUV arriving later this year

JSW MG Motor has revealed its new ADAPT BEV/hybrid platform, which will be used to develop hybrid and electric vehicles for the Indian market. A new report claims that the first model based on the new ADAPT platform will be an all-electric 7-seater SUV. This Mahindra XEV 9S-rivalling EV will go on sale in the country in August 2026. The model will be based on the Wuling Eksion or the Starlight 560 on sale in select international markets.

The JSW MG electric SUV will be packed with a 69 kWh battery pack, and has an official range of around 600km. The XEV 9S is available with three battery pack options - 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh. This electric SUV with a front-axle-mounted electric motor produces 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque.

The MG Eksion measures 4.7 meters in length, 1.85 meters in width and 1.7 meters in height, which is similar to the XEV 9S. It will be a 7-seater SUV, and will target buyers with large families. The electric SUV has a boxy, upright stance and an upright tail. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof and a powered tailgate.

JSW MG is expected to launch the Eksion-based plug-in hybrid SUV before the end of current financial year. It will be positioned against the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It will look similar to the BEV, except for some different styling elements.

The PHEV powertrain will feature a 1.5L petrol engine, an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. It offers a combined power and torque output of 194bhp and 230Nm, respectively. The SUV offers a pure electric range of 100km and a total range of 1100km (including the 52-litre fuel tank), as per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
