MG is all set to reveal a ‘new energy vehicle’ technology in India tomorrow. Details about the new vehicle are yet to be revealed, but it is expected to be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology. This technology is likely to be offered with a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560, which has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. In fact, MG has already patented its design in India.

Codenamed 520, the upcoming MG midsize SUV will come with both PHEV and EV powertrain options. The Starlight 560 is likely to come with 7-seat configurations and measure longer than the XUV 7XO. The global-spec model is 4745mm long, 1850mm wide and 1755mm tall with a wheelbase of 2810mm. It is around 50mm longer than the Mahindra XUV 7XO, along with a longer wheelbase.

The Plug-in hybrid version comes equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine supported by an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. It offers a combined power and torque output of 194bhp and 230Nm, respectively. The SUV offers a pure electric range of 100km and a total range of 1100km  (including the 52-litre fuel tank), as per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

The electric version is packed with a 69.2kWh battery pack and a 201hp front-axle-mounted electric motor. It is claimed to offer a CLTC range of 530km on a single charge.

The Starlight 560 gets an integrated dual screen setup comprising a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.8-inch digital instrument console. In terms of features, the SUV gets connected car tech, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, multiple USB charging ports, panoramic sunroof, OTA updates, premium leatherette upholstery and others.
