MG's first plug-in hybrid SUV could debut on July 16. Hector Hawk is expected to be the official name. May offer over 100 km of pure electric driving.
JSW MG Motor India is all set to take its next step in the new energy vehicle space. The company is expected to unveil its first plug-in hybrid SUV on July 16, and recent reports suggest it could be called the MG Hector Hawk. Although MG has not officially confirmed the name, trademark filings and the company's latest teaser indicate that the upcoming SUV could become the newest member of the Hector family.
MG recently released a teaser with the message, "Internet Inside transformed the way India drove. Now, it's time to power the next evolution."
The teaser is believed to reference the Hector, which became India's first connected SUV with the "Internet Inside" branding. This has led to speculation that MG's first plug-in hybrid SUV will carry the Hector name forward as the Hector Hawk.
While the trademark is yet to receive final approval, it strongly hints at the possible name for the new model.

The upcoming SUV is expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560 Plug-in Hybrid, which is already sold in select overseas markets.
The SUV measures 4,745 mm in length and comes with a 2,810 mm wheelbase, offering a spacious three-row cabin. Spy shots from India have revealed a boxy SUV design, suggesting plenty of cabin space along with a strong road presence.
The production model is also expected to feature a premium interior, connected car technology and a wide range of safety features.
Internationally, the Wuling Starlight 560 uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack.
The setup produces a combined output of 197 bhp and 230 Nm while offering over 100 km of electric-only driving range. Unlike conventional self-charging hybrids, a plug-in hybrid uses a much larger battery, allowing drivers to complete most daily trips without using petrol.
For longer journeys, the petrol engine automatically takes over, removing the need to depend entirely on charging infrastructure.
MG has already built a strong presence in India's EV market with models like the MG Windsor EV, MG Comet EV and MG ZS EV.
Now, the company appears to be targeting buyers who want the benefits of electric driving without giving up the convenience of a petrol engine. Plug-in hybrids are becoming increasingly popular globally, and MG sees this as an opportunity to expand its new energy vehicle portfolio in India.
MG is expected to reveal the new SUV on July 16, when it is also likely to announce the official name, complete specifications and other details. If launched as the MG Hector Hawk, it will become the company's first plug-in hybrid SUV in India and introduce a new option for buyers looking beyond conventional petrol, diesel and strong hybrid SUVs.
