Hector Tomahawk PHEV comes with a plug-in hybrid powertrain Toyota Innova Hycross gets a self-charging hybrid powertrain
It is no secret that automakers are looking at hybrid tech as an immediate alternative to the likes of the diesel and petrol cars. While Toyota has dominated the 3-row premium category with its self-charging strong-hybrid Innova Hycross, JSW MG Motor has disrupted the segment with the Hector Tomahawk PHEV - India’s first mass-market Plug-in Hybrid SUV.
Priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 31 lakh, these two electrified models address efficiency and family travel with different hybrid technologies.
The big difference between two 7-seater models is how their hybrid systems generate and use electric energy:
MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV: It is packed with a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine clubbed with a large 20.5 kWh battery pack and a 198 bhp electric motor. The SUV offers a pure EV range of over 115 km, which allows customers to complete daily city commutes on battery power. Using a 25 kW DC fast charger, the battery tops up from 30% to 80% in 35 minutes. The SUV offers a combined range of over 1100km.
Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid: it is packed with Toyota’s 2.0-litre self-charging strong-hybrid engine paired with an e-CVT gearbox. It features a smaller battery pack recharged via internal combustion and regenerative braking. The Hycross hybrid drives on electric power during low speeds and bumper-to-bumper traffic .

The SUV gets a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and powered front seats.
Innova Hycross Hybrid: this MPV focuses heavily on second-row passenger comfort. It offers powered Ottoman captain seats with leg rests, dual-zone climate control, rear sunshades, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit along with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
