Hyundai Ioniq P Compact Electric SUV Launch in Early 2027

Hyundai to Launch Ioniq P small electric SUV in early 2027 It will be manufactured at Hyundai's Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu

Hyundai has officially announced to launch its upcoming small electric SUV, codenamed HE1i, in the first quarter of 2027. A new media report claims that the new EV is expected to be called the Hyundai Ionia P. With this SUV, Hyundai’s IONIQ nameplate will enter into a more accessible segment. However, Hyundai Motor India is yet to announce the same officially.

Speaking at the third-quarter 2026 earnings conference call with analysts on October 29, 2026, Hyundai management said that the company would launch the Ioniq P in India following the Hyundai Bayon.

Hyundai Ioniq P - What to Expect?

The Ioniq P small electric SUV is currently undergoing road-testing in India. It will be a born-electric vehicle built on the E-GMP (K) platform, which also underpins the Inster EV on sale in global markets. The small electric SUV will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu.

The small electric SUV will initially be offered with imported battery cells. However, the Korean automaker has joined hands with Exide Industries to source locally manufactured cells. The supplies for the locally developed batteries under the Hyundai-Kia programme is expected to begin sometime in 2027.

The Hyundai Ioniq P is expected to be offered in two versions - Standard Range and Long Range. The global-spec Inster EV is available with two battery packs - 42 kWh and 49 kWh batteries, offering a range of up to 355km (WLTP). The India-spec model could share the battery options with the Kia Syros EV, which is available with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh units. We expect the electric SUV to offer a realistic range of over 400km on a single charge.

The new Ioniq P will be equipped with the next-generation Pleos Connect infotainment system, which will also be offered on the upcoming third-generation Creta. It will be equipped with LEVEL 2 ADAS setup with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and others. Key features could include ventilated and powered front seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OTA updates, automatic AC, and more. The boxy-shaped SUV will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and the Kia Syros EV.
