Tata Safari EV Could Get Up to 80kWh Battery

Tata Safari EV could get an 80kWh battery. RWD and AWD options are expected. Launch likely in January 2027.

Tata Motors is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the upcoming Safari EV, which is expected to arrive in India in January 2027. The all-electric SUV could offer a large battery pack, long driving range and an all-wheel-drive option, making it one of the brand’s most premium electric offerings. The Safari EV is expected to share its underpinnings with the Tata Harrier EV. While the company has not confirmed the final specifications, the upcoming electric SUV could be offered with multiple battery options, including a larger 80kWh pack on higher variants.

Tata Safari EV Could Get an 80kWh Battery

The upcoming Tata Safari EV is expected to use the Acti.ev+ platform, which also underpins the Harrier EV. The platform supports different battery and drivetrain configurations, allowing Tata Motors to offer the Safari EV in multiple variants. The electric SUV could get battery packs of around 65kWh and 75kWh, while a larger 80kWh battery could be offered on select top-spec variants. However, these battery options are yet to be officially confirmed.

If Tata Motors offers a battery pack similar to the one used in the Harrier EV, the Safari EV could deliver a claimed range of over 600km under the right configuration. The final driving range will depend on the battery size, drivetrain and vehicle setup.

RWD and AWD Options Expected

The Tata Safari EV could be offered with both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations. The RWD version is likely to focus on everyday usability and driving range, while the AWD variant could offer stronger performance and better traction.

For reference, the Harrier EV’s 75kWh version offers a claimed range of up to 627km in RWD form and 622km with AWD. Its RWD setup produces 238PS and 315Nm, while the AWD version uses two motors to deliver a combined output of up to 504Nm of torque. These figures are for the Harrier EV and should not be taken as confirmed specifications for the Safari EV. Tata Motors is expected to reveal the electric SUV’s final powertrain details closer to launch.

Tata Safari EV Could Get 6- and 7-Seater Layouts

The upcoming electric SUV is expected to be available in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. This would allow Tata Motors to cater to buyers looking for a premium electric SUV with additional passenger space. The 6-seater version could feature captain seats in the second row, while the 7-seater model may offer a conventional three-seat second row. The overall cabin layout and seating comfort are likely to be important highlights, especially for families looking for a large electric SUV.

Expected Design and Features

The Tata Safari EV is expected to get several design changes to distinguish it from the petrol and diesel-powered Safari. These could include a closed-off front grille, redesigned alloy wheels, updated lighting elements and EV-specific badging. Inside, the electric SUV could feature a triple-screen dashboard layout, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a premium audio system. Other expected features include dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, wireless charging and connected car technology. Safety and driver assistance features could include a 360-degree camera system, Level 2 ADAS and multiple driving modes. However, the final equipment list may vary across variants.

Tata Safari EV Expected Price and Rivals

The Tata Safari EV could be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 32 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the battery pack, drivetrain and variant. The larger battery and AWD versions are likely to sit towards the top of the range. Once launched, the electric SUV could compete with other premium electric SUVs, including the Mahindra XEV 9S and upcoming electric offerings from other manufacturers. Its spacious cabin, multiple seating layouts and potentially large battery pack could help it stand out in the segment.
