Tata Safari EV, Honda EV and Hyundai HE1i – Key Details Revealed So Far

Tata Safari EV is expected with six- and seven-seat layouts. Honda’s electric SUV could offer a range of around 650km. Hyundai HE1i is expected to get Level 2 ADAS.

Tata Motors, Honda and Hyundai are preparing to expand their electric vehicle line-ups in India with three new models expected to be unveiled by the end of 2026. The upcoming electric SUVs will target different segments, with a focus on modern styling, new features and longer driving ranges.

Tata Motors is expected to introduce the Safari EV as a three-row electric SUV. Honda will unveil its first made-in-India electric car based on the 0 Alpha concept, while Hyundai is working on a new compact electric SUV, codenamed HE1i.

Here are the key details known so far about these three upcoming electric vehicles.

1. Tata Safari EV: Three-Row Electric SUV

Tata Motors is expected to unveil the Safari EV as early as November 2026. The electric SUV is expected to offer six- and seven-seat layouts, targeting customers who need extra passenger space. Spy shots have shown a redesigned dashboard with three displays, including a touchscreen for the front passenger. This screen is expected to support entertainment, music controls, games and navigation.

The Safari EV is also expected to feature independent rear suspension, which could improve ride comfort. Tata Motors is likely to offer multiple powertrain configurations, including standard-range rear-wheel drive (RWD), extended-range RWD and extended-range all-wheel drive (AWD) versions. The extended-range RWD variant is expected to deliver around 600km of driving range on a single charge. Tata Motors has not yet confirmed the battery specifications or official range figures. The Safari EV could compete with upcoming electric SUVs such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and MG Hector Tomahawk EV.

2. Honda EV: Based on the 0 Alpha Concept

Honda will unveil its first made-in-India electric car on December 2, 2026, according to the current timeline. Based on the 0 Alpha concept, the model will be a midsize electric SUV, with a market launch expected in January 2027.

The SUV is expected to feature aerodynamic styling, a sloping profile and a distinctive exterior design. Its cabin will also introduce a new layout compared with Honda’s current India line-up. Expected interior features include a flat-bottom steering wheel, a tablet-style infotainment touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster.

The upcoming SUV is expected to come with two front-wheel-drive variants, each using a single electric motor. The expected battery options are 65kWh and 75kWh LFP packs. The larger battery version could offer a range of around 650km on a full charge. Honda has yet to confirm the battery capacities, motor output, charging details or official driving range. The model will mark Honda’s entry into India’s locally manufactured electric passenger vehicle segment.

3. Hyundai HE1i: New Compact Electric SUV

Hyundai is expected to unveil its new compact electric SUV, codenamed HE1i, in December 2026. The model is expected to feature a boxy exterior with rugged styling and Hyundai’s signature pixel-inspired lighting.

Inside, the HE1i is expected to feature Hyundai’s new global interior design language. The reported layout includes a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Hyundai has confirmed that the HE1i will offer Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The final list of driver-assistance features has not yet been announced.

The electric SUV is expected to be available with two battery pack options using cells sourced from China’s Svolt. The larger battery version could deliver around 500km of driving range on a single charge. Hyundai has not yet announced the battery capacities, motor specifications, prices or exact launch date.
