The Tata Safari SUV has always been known for its massive road presence, muscular design and spacious three-row cabin. However, its 5-star crash test safety rating is one of its biggest selling points. The SUV is already available with petrol and diesel engine options, and now Tata Motors is set to introduce its all-electric iteration. Codenamed Tayrona, the Tata Safari EV will become the brand’s first three-row and flagship electric SUV.
While Tata Motors is yet to announce an official launch date, the Safari EV is expected to hit showrooms by October 2026. Production of the electric SUV is likely to begin in August, 2026.
Compared to its ICE counterpart, which is currently available within the price range of Rs 13.29 lakh – Rs 26.40 lakh (ex-showroom), the electric Safari will command a premium. Its entry-level variant is expected to be priced around ₹22.00 Lakhs* and the top-end variant with larger battery pack is likely to cost around ₹28.00 Lakhs* (ex-showroom).
Minor EV-specific design changes are expected. The Tata Safari EV will feature a closed-off grille, revised front and rear bumpers, aero-optimized alloy wheels and EV badging. Dimensionally, the EV is likely to remain identical to the ICE counterpart, which measures 4668mm in length, 1922mm in width and 1795mm in height.
Tata Motors is also expected to pack the SUV with its latest TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer) E&E architecture, which debuted with the Harrier EV. This advanced architecture supports connected technologies, next-gen infotainment ecosystems, software-defined vehicle functions, OTA (Over-The-Air) updates, AI-based features, ADAS and EV-ready systems.
Based on the Acti.ev+ platform, the Safari EV is expected to share powertrain with the Harrier EV. The latter is available with 65kWh and 75kWh LFP battery options along with both single and dual motor setups. The 65kWh RWD version offers a claimed range of 538km, while the 75kWh RWD and 75kWh AWD variants deliver claimed ranges of 627km and 622km, respectively. The official range figures for the Safari EV are yet to be officially revealed, the SUV is expected to deliver over 500km on a single charge.
Similar to the Harrier EV, the electric Safari will support 120kW DC fast charging. It’s could additionally offer V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) functionalities along with multiple terrain and drive modes. This electric SUV could also be equipped with a multi-link rear suspension featuring frequency-dependent dampers for enhancing ride comfort.
When launched, the Tata Safari EV will directly go against the Mahindra XEV 9S, which is currently priced between Rs 19.95 lakh – Rs 29.45 lakh (ex-showroom).
