Tata Safari EV Launch by Diwali 2026 It will share the battery-specs and electric motors with Harrier EV Safari EV will directly rival the Hector Tomahawk EV and Mahindra XEV 9S
Tata Motors is preparing a major festive offensive with its all-new 3-row electric SUV, which is expected to be launched by Diwali 2026. The new model is most likely to be the electric version of the Safari, which has been caught testing numerous times on the Indian roads. The new Tata Safari EV will be positioned as a direct counterweight to the Mahindra XEV 9S and JSW MG Hector Tomahawk EV.
The new Tata Safari EV will be built on Tata’s advanced acti.ev+ platform that also underpins the Harrier EV, and it will be an ICE-to-EV conversion. The previous spy images reveal that the SUV will have Harrier EV-like independent multi-link rear suspension setup. It will look largely identical to the ICE version, except for the redesigned front and rear bumpers, new aero-optimised wheels and EV-specific badges.
The interior is expected to be similar to that of the ICE model, except for a different cabin theme. However, it will get TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer) E&E architecture, which unlocks features such as over-the-air (OTA) updates, auto park assist and summon mode, a 540-degree surround-view camera, low-speed cruise control and UPI-based in-car payment services.
In terms of features, the SUV will get a triple-screen dashboard layout, featuring a digital instrument console, a touchscreen infotainment unit and a dedicated entertainment screen for co-occupant, augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), LEVEL 2+ ADAS, and a panoramic glass roof.
The Tata Safari EV is likely to be offered with the same 65 kWh and 75 kWh batteries as the Harrier EV. The larger battery version will also receive a dual-motor AWD (All-Wheel Drive) option. In the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or single-motor setup, the Tata Harrier EV offers 238 hp and 315 Nm of torque. In the dual-motor AWD versions, the SUV offers an additional 116hp from the front electric motor and a combined torque stands at 504Nm.
The Safari EV will have larger and heavier body than the Harrier EV, which should impact its range. The Harrier EV 65kWh variant is claimed to offer 538km of range, while the 75kWh RWD and AWD versions deliver 627 km and 622 km, respectively.
The Tata Safari EV is expected to support up to 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 10% to 80% top-up in under 30 minutes. The SUV will also have Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) power-sharing tech.
By aligning the Safari EV’s launch with the peak festive season around Diwali 2026, Tata Motors aims to attract premium family buyers shifting away from traditional ICE models. Adding to it, Tata will have presence in the fast growing 7-seater electric SUV segment dominated by Mahindra XEV 9S.
