MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV

JSW MG Motor India has introduced the country's first mass-market plug-in hybrid vehicle or PHEV, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV. Not just PHEV, the Hector Tomahawk SUV is also available with an electric powertrain option. This mass-market plug-in hybrid SUV is claimed to offer a combined range of over 1,100km in a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery. 

Hector Tomahawk PHEV Price in India

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available in 2 variants, priced between ₹25.70 Lakhs* and ₹27.80 Lakhs*, ex-showroom, India. The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle is also available under a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme, where prices start at Rs 21.79 lakh + an additional Rs 3.20 per km charged as battery rental. 

Key Features

In terms of styling, the new Tomahawk PHEV looks largely identical to its EV derivative, except for the few changes to its front design. The front looks busy with multiple use of colours and trim elements. It gets an aggressive-looking functional grille with chrome elements, bull bar-like silver trim piece on the bumper, and gloss-black finishes below the rectangular-shaped headlamps. The side looks simple with rugged body cladding near the door sills and over the wheel arches. It rides on new 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the back, the SUV gets wraparound rectangular tail-lamps and a dual-tone bumper.

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV comes with a minimalistic cabin, featuring a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a free-standing 8.8-inch digital instrument console. Most of the functions, except for the AC controls, are operated via the touch unit. It gets a flat-bottomed two-spoke steering wheel and a large floating centre console with lots of storage spaces and a wireless phone charging pad. 

In terms of features, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, gesture controls for AC and audio settings, a panoramic sunroof, a 6-way powered driver's seat with memory function, a 4-way adjustable co-occupant seat, a powered tailgate, multi-colour ambient lighting, a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, connected car tech, and others. 

Safety Features

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV comes with six airbags, ESP, traction control, ISOFIX child mounts, a 360-degree camera setup with transparent-bonnet and wheel-view functions and others for safety of occupants. It also gets a LEVEL 2 ADAS suite with functions like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane assist and others. 

Dimensions

The new Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available in a 7-seater configuration. Dimensionally, the SUV is 4745mm in length, 1850mm in width and 1,770mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,810mm. 

Colours 

The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle is available in six monotone colours: Aurora Silver, Starry Black, Pearl White, Shadow Gold, Celadon Blue and Turquoise Green. The Turquoise Green and Celadon Blue are also offered as dual-tone options with a white roof.

Specifications

The Hector Tomahawk plug-in hybrid engine comprising a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated Atkinson-cycle petrol engine paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack and a permanent magnet electric motor. The combustion engine produces 102hp and 125Nm, while the electric motor is rated at 201hp and offers 237Nm of torque. The combined power and torque output stands at 198hp and 230Nm, respectively. 

The PHEV has four drive modes - Pure EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct Drive. The powertrain shuffles between all the modes, requiring no manual input from the driver. A 3.3kW AC charger can charge the battery from 10 to 100 percent in 7.5 hours, while a 25kW DC fast charger can top up the battery from 30 to 80 percent in 35 minutes.

Hector Tomahawk PHEV Mileage

The SUV offers an electric-only range of over 115km, and a total driving range of over 1,100km with a full tank of fuel and a full battery. JSW MG Motor India claims that the SUV can offer a fuel efficiency of around 40kmpl.

Competition

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV comes as an alternative to diesel 7-seater SUVs, including the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.
