New MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV – 1,100km Range, 40kpl, 7 Seats

1,100km range: MG claims more than 1,100km of total driving range. 40kpl efficiency: The PHEV is claimed to deliver over 40kpl combined. 7-seat SUV: It gets a 20.5kWh battery and over 115km electric-only range.

JSW MG Motor India has launched the new Hector Tomahawk PHEV in India alongside the fully electric version. Priced from Rs 25.70 lakh (ex-showroom), the new three-row SUV combines a petrol engine with an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery.

The biggest highlights are its claimed 115km-plus electric range, over 40kpl fuel efficiency and a total range of more than 1,100km with a full tank and fully charged battery.

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available in two seven-seat variants. The Exclusive 7S is priced at Rs 25.70 lakh, while the Essence 7S costs Rs 27.80 lakh.

MG is also offering the SUV with its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme. Under this scheme, prices start at Rs 21.79 lakh, with an additional battery rental charge of Rs 3.20 per km.

The BaaS version of the Essence 7S is priced at Rs 23.89 lakh, plus the same per-kilometre battery rental. These introductory prices are applicable to a limited number of bookings.

Bookings have opened, while deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2026.

1.5-Litre Petrol Engine and 20.5kWh Battery

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle petrol engine paired with a 20.5kWh battery and permanent-magnet electric motor.

The petrol engine produces 102hp and 125Nm, while the electric motor develops 201hp and 237Nm. MG has not revealed a combined system output figure.

The powertrain is paired with a dedicated hybrid transmission featuring an e-clutch. The petrol engine also has a claimed thermal efficiency of 43.2 percent.

Over 115km Electric Range

The plug-in hybrid SUV can travel more than 115km using electric power alone, according to MG. This means daily city commutes could potentially be completed without using the petrol engine, provided the battery is charged.

MG also claims a combined fuel efficiency figure of over 40kpl. With the battery fully charged and the fuel tank full, the SUV can cover more than 1,100km, making it suitable for longer journeys as well.

Four Hybrid Driving Modes

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV gets four operating modes: Pure EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct Drive.

In Pure EV mode, the electric motor drives the wheels using battery power. Series Hybrid mode uses the petrol engine to recharge the battery while the electric motor drives the wheels.

Parallel Hybrid mode allows both the engine and electric motor to drive the wheels, while Engine Direct Drive lets the petrol engine power the wheels directly.

The system can automatically switch between these modes depending on vehicle speed, throttle input, battery charge and road conditions. MG claims the transitions can happen in as little as 0.1 seconds.

Charging Details

The 20.5kWh battery can be charged using a 3.3kW AC charger, which takes around 7.5 hours to charge from 10 to 100 percent. A 25kW DC charger can charge the battery from 30 to 80 percent in around 35 minutes.

Seven Seats and Large Dimensions

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available exclusively with a seven-seat layout. It measures 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,770mm in height, with a 2,810mm wheelbase. It is longer than both the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari, giving it a sizeable footprint in the three-row SUV segment.
