Hector Tomahawk PHEV offers a range of over 1100km XUV 7XO gets an optional AWD capabiltiies
While 10-year diesel bans continue to hamper sunb-4 metre and midsize SUV sales, larger 3-row SUVs in India still see strong demand for diesel powertrains. However, automobile manufacturers believe that hybrids are the perfect replacement for the diesels. The 3-row family SUV segment in our market is witnessing a clash between classic diesel muscle and next-gen green mobility as JSW MG has launched the Tomahawk PHEV to rival the Mahindra XUV 7XO Diesel.
While Mahindra XUV 7XO offers raw low-end torque and optional All-Wheel Drive (AWD) capabilities, the MG Hector Tomahawk is India’s first mainstream plug-in hybrid to deliver zero-emission city driving and long-distance highway flexibility.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV: It is claimed to deliver 115 km of pure electric range, letting owners execute daily urban commutes strictly on battery power. The Hector Tomahawk plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powertrain combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine, a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The 148 kW (198bhp) electric motor delivers strong acceleration, enabling 0 to 100 kmph in approximately 9 seconds.
The Intelligent Energy Management System analyses driving conditions and automatic selects the required four dedicated drive modes: Pure EV Drive, Series Hybrid Drive, Parallel Hybrid Drive and Engine Direct Drive. The SUV offers a combined driving range of over 1,100km. The battery supports DC fast charging of up to 25kW, which tops up 30-80% in 35 minutes.
The Tomahawk PHEV is built around ride comfort and low NVH levels with a multi-link rear setup, tailored strictly for paved road conditions.
Mahindra XUV 7XO Diesel: It is packed with a 2.2-litre mHawk engine that produces 182.37 bhp and up to 450 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The XUV 7XO offers an optional Intelligent AWD system coupled with frequency-selective dampers, making it more than sufficient to handle unpaved tracks, gravel, and wet surfaces.
Hector Tomahawk PHEV: it houses a massive 15.6-inch central touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, 10-speaker Infinity premium sound system, Gen AI voice controls, powered driver and co-driver seats with ventilation, LEVEL 2 ADAS and others.
XUV 7XO Diesel: it is packed with a triple-screen glass cockpit comprising a 12.3-inch central infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch digital instrument console and a dedicated 12.3-inch co-occupant entertainment screen. Other key features include a 540-degree surround-view cameras, ventilated front seats, LEVEL 2 ADAS with Sense+ and others

If you are looking at lower daily fuel costs, quitter electric run, and cutting-edge tech, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV offers a compelling package. However, for buyers loves raw diesel pulls, AWD security and a slither lower price tag, the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel remains the top offering.
