Tata Motors to launch next-gen Nexon in early 2027 Avinya Series to launch by the end of next year
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles is planning to launch 6 all-new nameplates in the country before the end of this year. To meet the rising demand, the homegrown PV maker has asked its suppliers to ramp up capacity to support production of up to 1 lakh vehicles a month from the next financial year. Tata Motors is currently trying to produce about 75,000 passenger vehicles a month, but it is not able to ramp up fully due to capacity constraints at vendors.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles plans to invest Rs 37,500 - 40,000 crore over FY27-FY31 as it targets a 20 per cent share of India’s passenger vehicle market and annual sales of over 1.2 million units by FY31. Tata Motors will first launch the next-generation Nexon compact SUV in 2027, followed by premium models under the Avinya series later in the year. The homegrown automaker aims to introduce six new nameplates, taking its portfolio to 15 models by the end of this decade.
Tata Motors has started testing the new Nexon on the Indian roads. In fact, the next sub-4m SUV will launch before the long-awaited AVINYA series. Internally codenamed Garud, the next-generation Nexon will be launched in the Q2, 2027. We expect the production model could be revealed at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
The spy images reveal that the SUV will have a flatter roof selection and a taller, more upright C-pillar. It will have a sharper and more angular A-pillar design, wider rear haunches, a flatter rear windscreen and new wheel arches. Inside the cabin, the SUV could get a larger dual-screen digital setup for infotainment and instrumentation, an augmented-reality HUD, LEVEL 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof, front and rear-parking sensors, and enhanced connected-car features.
The SUV is expected to utilise the Tata’s acti.ev platform that also underpins the Punch EV and Curvv EV. Tata Motors will continue to follow multi-fuel strategy for the next-gen Nexon. It is likely to retain the 1.2L turbo petrol and dual-cylinder iCNG setups. Tata could also add a flex-fuel version.
The homegrown automaker will enter the premium electric vehicle space with its luxury AVINYA EV brand name. The first product under the new electric nameplate will be based on the AVINYA X Concept that debuted at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. To be positioned as the brand’s halo luxury offering, the Avinya series will be based on the dedicated global electric vehicle or EV architectures. Tata Motors has signed a license agreement with its British luxury brand, Jaguar Land Rover, allowing Tata cars to use JLR’s EMA platform.
Tata Avinya X is expected to feature an electric motor on each axle, offering electric all-wheel drive for instant torque, sharper cornering, and terrain adaptability. The company aims to achieve over 500 km of realistic range on a single charge to eliminate highway range. The electric SUV will support ultra-fast DC chargers, which is expected to add up to 500 km of driving range in less than 1 hour.
