Next-gen Tata Nexon to debut in 2027 It will get a more upright and boxy stance to maximize interior space
Tata Motors is preparing the next-generation Nexon compact SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in the Indian market in 2027. The SUV has already been caught testing multiple times, revealing key details. Codenamed Project Garud, the new Nexon will receive comprehensive changes in terms of design and interior along with mechanics.
The spy images reveal that the next-gen Nexon compact SUV will adopt a more upright and boxy stance, though Coupe-SUV traits will also be on offer. The spotted car has redesigned A and C-pillars, which promises expanded rear headroom and a command-like road presence.
The existing model is based on the X1 architecture, which will receive significant changes to accommodate the second generation Nexon. The structural overhaul would aim to enhance crash safety standards, lower NVH levels, and improve cabin space.
The 2027 Tata Nexon will come with all-new interiors with several features inspired by the Sierra SUV. It is expected to receive dual 10.25-inch screens, signature steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo, new air conditioning, and others. The SUV could also get next-gen ADAS, new UI/UX for the infotainment, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold function in higher trims. The company could also offer a triple-screen dashboard in the higher variants of the Nexon.
The 2027 Tata Nexon is most likely to retain the 1.2L turbo petrol and twin-cylinder CNG options. However, the long-serving 1.5L diesel engine may be phased out due to tightening emission norms. Converting the existing engine to meet the upcoming stringent emission regulations would require heavy re-engineering, which will significantly increase its production cost. Tata could offer the diesel engine for a limited period of time. The homegrown automaker is also exploring hybrid powertrains to power its popular models.
