KIA Sonet

The KIA Sonet is a premium sub-compact SUV designed by KIA Cars for developing markets such as India and Nepal. The car is manufactured in India and is positioned below the KIA Seltos SUV in terms of size and price. It is closely related to the Hyundai Venue sub-compact SUV, which is also a popular model in this segment. The car has been on sale in the country since 2020 and has not received any major facelifts. 

KIA Sonet: Exterior

The KIA Sonet exterior features an aggressive design with muscular lines and angular cuts. Upfront, the new Sonet provides the signature Tiger Nose grille flanked by new Crown Jewel LED headlamps. 

The lower part of the Seltos features a large air dam that adds to the sporty look, with two faux vents finished in chrome.

Moving to the sides, one can see the black body cladding that runs around the Sonet car giving it the SUV appeal along with the sporty 16-inch alloy wheels. Towards the rear, the car gets a wraparound glass housing sitting atop an angular boot lid. Overall, the KIA Sonet’s design is dynamic from every angle.

KIA Sonet: Interior and Features

Interior: On the inside, the KIA Sonet’s cabin exudes a sense of premiumness with its Neo Plush that is finished in an all-black theme. The overall fit, finish and the use of premium materials for all touchpoints, helps provide users an elevated and luxurious experience.

Features: The KIA Sonet boasts unique interior features, including an all-digital instrument cluster, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with KIA Connect Tech, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, air purifier, ventilated front seats, and more.

Safety: In terms of safety, the Sonet offers 4-airbags, ABS with EBD, engine immobiliser, TPMS monitoring, a reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors as basic equipment.

KIA Sonet: Price and Variants

KIA Sonet price in India starts from Rs 8.89 lakh and extends to Rs 15.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered in a total of 19 variants - HTE, HTK, HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus, GTX Plus and X-Line.

KIA Sonet: Engine and Specification

KIA Sonet comes with three engine options that include a 1.2-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and another 1.0-litre turbo petrol units. The 1.2-litre petrol is the least powerful engine and produces 82 bhp alongside 115 Nm torque. This engine comes mated to only a 5-speed manual transmission.

The 1.5-litre diesel is rated to produce up to 115 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque with a choice of 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The most powerful of the lot is the 1.0-litre turbo petrol unit producing 120 bhp and 172 Nm torque. This powertrain comes mated to either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT gearbox option.

The KIA Sonet measures 3,995mm in length, is 1,790mm wide and 1,642mm tall having a wheelbase of 2,500mm. The car gets a large 45-litre fuel tank and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The 2023 KIA Sonet returns a claimed fuel economy of up to 18.4 kmpl. 

KIA Sonet: Colour Options

There are 7 distinct single tone exterior colour options available on the KIA Sonet. They include, Sparkling Silver, Imperial Blue, Aurora Black Pearl, Gravity Grey, Glacier White Pearl, Clear White and Intense Red. The Glacier White Pearl and Intense Red colours can also be ordered with a contrast Aurora Black Pearl roof. 

In addition, the X-Line model is also available in a special Matte Graphite colour option.
