Kia to Launch Two New SUVs in 2027 - Next Sonet and Seltos Hybrid
Next-gen Kia Sonet arriving in early 2027 Seltos Hybrid to launch in late 2027
After introducing the new Sorento and Syros EV, Kia is now preparing to launch two more SUVs in the Indian market in the next financial year, FY2027-28. The Korean automaker is set to introduce the next-generation Kia Sonet alongside the long-awaited Kia Seltos Strong Hybrid. These two SUVs will aim to further strengthen Kia’s presence in the highly competitive sub-4-metre compact and midsize SUV categories.

The second-generation Kia Sonet will be designed and developed on Kia’s global K1 modular platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Syros. This platform will allow Kia to install advanced electronics, including O-OTA updates and remote diagnostic capabilities), and LEVEL 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite.
Adding to it, the SUV’s wheelbase will be increased by 20mm. The current model has tighter rear-seat knee room, but the K1 platform with extended wheelbase directly addresses this concern. The second-generation Sonet will offer enhanced rear legroom and shoulder room.
The spy images reveal that the second-generation Sonet will have a completely new front fascia, inspired by bigger Kia SUVs. It will have new split LED headlamp setup with Sorento-like boomerang-shaped LED DRLs on top, and honeycomb patterned grille, and aggressive front bumper. The SUV will have a boxier profile compared to the existing model. Inside the cabin, the next Kia Sonet will have a curved screen integrated 12.3-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument console.
The all-new Kia Sonet is likely to be powered by an 83hp, 1.2L NA petrol, 120hp, 1.2L turbo petrol and 116hp, 1.5L diesel engines. The SUV will also receive a strong hybrid engine, which is likely to be introduced in 2028 or 2029.

After introducing the Sorento Hybrid, Kia is now looking to expand its Hybrid portfolio in India. The next Kia hybrid SUV will be the Seltos hybrid, which is scheduled to be launched in late 2027. The SUV will receive a heavily localised strong hybrid powertrain, which will combine a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol engine with a high-efficiency electric motor and small battery pack. The SUV is expected to offer a fuel economy of over 25kmpl.
The SUV will come with a repositioned column-mounted gear selector stalk, a twin 12.3-inch curved display setup, LEVEL 2 ADAS suite and a panoramic sunroof.
