New Kia Sonet to Get Fresh Design, More Features and Hybrid Option

New-gen Kia Sonet is expected to launch in 2027. The SUV could get a curved dual-screen setup and Level 2 ADAS. A hybrid version is reportedly planned for 2029.

Kia is working on the next-generation Sonet, which is expected to launch in India in 2027 with a fresh design, more features and improved safety. The upcoming compact SUV has been spotted testing in India and South Korea, giving an early look at some of the changes planned for the new model.

The new Kia Sonet, reportedly codenamed QY2E, is expected to get a new platform and an updated cabin. A hybrid version is also planned for 2029, according to reports. The Sonet will be an important model for Kia as the company aims to increase its annual sales to 4.10 lakh units by 2030.

New Kia Sonet to Get a Fresh Design

The next-generation Kia Sonet is expected to follow the brand’s latest ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. This styling approach combines sharp lines and geometric shapes with smoother surfaces.

Spy shots show angular window frames, a gently sloping roofline and a revised C-pillar design. The SUV could also get sharper dual-tone ORVMs, squared wheel arches and sportier alloy wheels. The wheel size could be 17 or 18 inches, depending on the variant. At the rear, the new Sonet appears to have redesigned tail lamps. These could feature a connected design, along with changes to the boot lid and rear bumper.

The front design has not been fully revealed yet. However, the new model could get a larger, squarer grille, vertically arranged LED headlamps and Kia’s Star Map LED daytime running lights. The styling may take inspiration from newer Kia models, including the EV3, EV9 and the latest Seltos. Kia could also introduce new exterior colour options with the next-generation Sonet.

New Kia Sonet Interior and Features

The cabin is expected to receive major changes. One of the key upgrades could be a curved display setup with two 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. The current Sonet already offers dual screens, but the new model could get a more modern, seamless layout. Other possible changes include a new multifunction steering wheel and redesigned controls for the air conditioning and audio system.

The upcoming SUV could also get a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, an upgraded sound system and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function. The current Sonet offers features such as ventilated front seats, a Bose sound system, a smart air purifier and ambient lighting. Kia could build on this equipment list in the new model.

The company may also use more sustainable materials inside the cabin, including bio-based leatherette and recycled fabrics. However, the final interior design and feature list have not been confirmed.

New Kia Sonet Could Get Level 2 ADAS

Safety is expected to be another major focus in the next-generation Kia Sonet. The current model comes with Level 1 ADAS, which includes 10 driver-assistance features. The new Sonet could get Level 2 ADAS, offering more advanced driver assistance. Kia has not yet confirmed which systems will be included.

The current model comes with six airbags, electronic stability control, hill assist control, vehicle stability management, a blind view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes and a 360-degree camera. The next-generation Sonet is also expected to move to Kia’s newer K1 platform. This could bring improvements to its overall structure and safety, although official details are still awaited.

New Kia Sonet Hybrid Expected in 2029

At launch in 2027, the new-generation Kia Sonet is expected to continue with the existing engine options. A hybrid version is reportedly planned for 2029. The hybrid powertrain is expected to produce a combined output of around 140 PS. Kia has not confirmed the technical details, fuel efficiency or launch timeline for the hybrid model.

A hybrid Sonet could attract buyers who want better fuel efficiency without switching to a fully electric vehicle. It could also help Kia offer more powertrain choices in the compact SUV segment. The Kia Seltos and Carens are also expected to get hybrid options as the company expands its range. However, details about these upcoming models have not been officially announced.
