Kia India Confirms Sonet, Clavis and Seltos Hybrids - Launch Timeline Out

Kia Sonet and Clavis hybrids confirmed for India A new B-segment electric SUV to launch by 2029

Kia has confirmed 5 new strong hybrid and an all-new B-segment electric SUV for the Indian market. The big news is that the Sonet and Carens Clavis along with the new Seltos will also receive strong hybrid engine. The Kia Sonet and Carens Clavis will receive hybrid powertrains in the Indian market by 2029. The brand’s first hybrid vehicle, the Sorento will be launched on September 4, 2026, which will be joined by Carnival Hybrid before the end of this year.

Next-gen Kia Sonet

The Korean automaker, Kia has already started testing the next-generation Sonet compact SUV on the Indian roads. Slated to be launched in 2027, the new Sonet is expected to receive a hybrid engine in 2028 or 2029. Technical details on the new Sonet are yet to be revealed, but the carmaker is reportedly working on an all-new entry-level hybrid powertrain for smaller vehicles, including Sonet.

The second-generation Kia Sonet will be based on the new K1 platform that also underpins the new Hyundai Venue and the Syros. This platform is compatible with hybrid powertrain as well as the latest electrical and electronics architecture, which enables OTA updates and remote diagnostics. Adding to it, the SUV will offer more space in the second-row and a bigger boot compared to the current model.

Carens Clavis and Seltos Hybrid

Hyundai and Kia are working on an all-new hybrid powertrain for the Indian market. This hybrid is expected to be based on the existing 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine clubbed with a small battery and an electric motor. It is expected that the new hybrid engine will first debut on the next-gen Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The same is also likely to come with the Carens Clavis by 2029. The MPV is currently available with naturally-aspirated petrol, turbo petrol, diesel and all-electric powertrains.
