Mahindra XUV400 Overview
The homegrown passenger vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra, started its electric SUV journey with the launch of the XUV400 in 2023. The Mahindra XUV400 received its much-needed update in January 2024. The new electric SUV shares its platform and mechanics with the Mahindra XUV300 sub-4 meter SUV, which also shares its core DNA with the SsangYong Tivoli.
The Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV received a more premium and feature-loaded cabin compared to the older XUV300. This electric SUV is offered with two battery pack options.

The Mahindra XUV400 is available in two trim levels - EC Pro and EL Pro - and in total of 3 variants. The XUV400 electric price in India starts at Rs 15.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.49 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Expert Opinion - We recommend you to go for the EL Pro 39.4kWh variant, which costs Rs 17.49 lakh. This model offers spirited performance along with a longer range. This variant claims to offer a range of over 450km on a single charge; however, in real world conditions, it delivers around 300km. This model also gets several high-end features like 6 airbags, a bigger touchscreen, a digital instrument console, wireless charging and others.

The new Mahindra XUV400 is available in two variants - EC Pro and EL Pro. The base variant gets drive modes, ESP, TPMS, dual-zone climate control, all 4 disc brakes and others. It rides on 16-inch steel wheels with a cover. Other features include dual airbags, ISOFIX/Child Anchors, fabric seats, LED tail-lamps, electrically adjustable wing mirrors and 60:40 split seats.
The top variant of the XUV400 gets all the features that are accessible in the base EC Pro. It gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The infotainment unit supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include cruise control, auto dimming IRVM, front fog lamp, 16-inch diamond cut alloys, electrically foldable ORVMs, rear view camera, auto headlamps and many more.
Battery Pack & Range
The new Mahindra XUV400 is available with two battery pack options - a 34.5kWh and a 39.4kWh. Both models are offered with a front-axle-mounted electric motor rated at 150PS and offers a peak torque of 310Nm. The SUV is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in mere 8.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of 150kmph.
Range - the XUV400 with 34.5kWh battery pack offers a range of 375 kilometres (MIDC). The bigger battery pack version delivers a range of 456 kilometres, as per Indian driving cycle standards.
The new Mahindra XUV400 is offered in 3 intelligent drive modes - Fun, Fast and Fearless. It also gets 'Lively mode', which is a segment-first feature that enables effortless navigation in dense traffic.
Exteriors
The Mahindra XUV400 has a strong resemblance with the XUV300. However, it comes with some changes to offer a unique look. The XUV400 is 200mm longer than the donor SUV. Moreover, the rear profile of the SUV is more muscular and sharper.
The new XUV400 has a closed-off front grille with copper contrast finish. There is a twin-peak Mahindra logo finished in copper placed at the centre of the blanked-off grille. The SUV gets LED headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, and a dual-tone lower bumper with copper treatment. There are air vents on the lower end of the bumper.
The side profile looks similar to the XUV300, except for the differently styled wheels and longer rear doors. The rear looks completely different from the regular XUV300. It gets newly styled wrapped-around LED tail-lamps, EV and XUV400 Insignia's in copper colour on the tailgate, roof-mounted spoiler and dual-tone lower bumper.
Interiors
The cabin of the new Mahindra XUV400 has received substantial changes. Instead of an all-black interior, the new XUV400 electric gets a two-tone, ivory-and-black colour scheme. There are chrome door handles along with copper highlights all across to give it a premium touch. The upholstery used comes with a twin-peaks pattern and copper stitching.
The new Mahindra XUV400 gets a new steering wheel and redesigned dashboard layout. Instead of analogue dials, the new model gets a digital instrument console which is easy to read. It gets a new free-standing, touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The climate control panel is all new, while the physical buttons and knobs are bigger and look better than the pre-facelift model.
Dimensions and Boot Space
The Mahindra XUV400 measures 4200mm in length, 1821mm in width and 1634mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2600mm, which is similar to the XUV300. The ground clearance stands at 200mm. With all seats in position, the SUV offers a boot space of 378-litres. It rides on 16-inch wheels wrapped in 205/65 section tyres.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The new XUV400 gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The SUV comes with 4-speakers and 2 tweeters. Adding to it, the SUV offers connected car tech with more than 55 connected car features.
Safety Features
The new XUV400 gets dual airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), all 4 disc brakes, and rear parking sensors as standard. The top-end Mahindra XUV400 variant gets 6 airbags, reverse camera, rain sensing wipers, light-sensing headlamps, and hill hold assist.
Competition
Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV directly rivals the country's top-selling electric SUV, the Tata Nexon. The SUV also comes as an alternative to the MG ZS EV.

Comfort & Convenience
The front and rear seats of the new XUV400 are very comfortable. The front seats hold the passengers well, offering good legroom, kneeroom and under thigh support. The well-cushioned seats offer good back support, which is essential for long journeys.
The space in the rear is significantly higher than the competition. The bench-type seat is wide enough to accommodate three adults easily. There is good under thigh support and knee room space. The 378-litres boot space is more than sufficient to carry your weekend bags.
Performance
The new XUV400 comes with two battery pack options - a 34.5kWh and 39.4kWh. It offers three drive modes - Fun, Fast and Fearless. The Fun mode is for higher range, as power delivery is linear and performance is decent for city commute. For stronger acceleration, Fearless mode presents the motor at its peak. The SUV can hit a top speed of up to 160kmph in Fearless Mode, while the top-speed is restricted to 90kmph in Fun mode.
The steering wheel feels light in Fun mode, and it gets heavier in Fearless mode. In the 'L' mode, the regen feels strong. The suspension setup is tuned to offer a comfortable ride at lower speeds; however, it gets bouncier at higher speeds.
