Mahindra is all set to reveal the much-awaited BE 6e and XEV 9e electric SUVs in the country on November 26, 2024. Ahead of the official reveal, Mahindra has released the battery specifications, charging details and power output of both SUVs. The specs are interesting, suggesting that the new Mahindra BE 6e will be the most popular model in its category.
The new Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e will be the first of 'born EVs' from the Indian brand. The BE 6e will come with SUV-Coupe styling and will be positioned above the XUV400 in the brand's EV portfolio. The homegrown automaker is aiming to price the new model competitively, as it will come as a rival to the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, and the upcoming Suzuki e Vitara.
The electric SUV will be based on Mahindra's scalable and modular born-EV INGLO platform, which will also underpin the XUV.e8 based 3-row electric SUV and the brand's future EVs. The big news is that the Mahindra BE 6e will come with two LFP (Lithium iron phosphate) batteries - 59kWh and 79kWh. The configuration is significantly higher than the ones offered in the Curvv EV and the Suzuki e Vitara.
The electric SUV Coupe will come be equipped with a rear-axle-mounted electric motor. Mahindra calls the setup a 'compact three-in-one powertrain' made up of a motor, an inverter and the transmission. The outputs for the motor range between 231hp and 286hp, depending on the application. It is expected that the Mahindra BE 6e will also receive an AWD set-up, which will have a higher combined output due to the addition of a motor on the front axle.
The new Mahindra BE 6e electric SUV Coupe supports fast charging. Using 175kW DC fast charger, the batteries can charge from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. The electric SUV will offer drive modes, a semi-active suspension setup and brake-by-wire technology.
The e Vitara is offered with two battery packs - 49kWh and 61kWh with 2WD setup comes as standard. The 61kWh battery version also comes with 4WD setup. While the entry-level model offers 142bhp of power, the 61kWh battery with 2WD setup delivers 171bhp. The torque output stands at 189Nm. The AWD version offers a combined power output of 181bhp and 300Nm of torque.
The electric SUV Coupe is available with two battery packs - 45kWh and 55kWh - with front-axle-mounted electric motor. While the entry-level variants offer 147bhp and 215Nm, the 55kWh variants deliver 165bhp and 215Nm of torque.
