Toyota Kirloskar Motor recently introduced the ninth-generation Hilux in India. The lifestyle pickup truck receives significant design changes and feature enhancements, while retaining its IMV body-on-frame platform, Double Cab body style and the proven 2.8L diesel engine.

The 2026 Toyota Hilux is available in 3 variants, GX 4X2 AT, GX 4X4 AT and VX 4X4 AT – priced between ₹31.99 Lakhs* and ₹36.69 Lakhs*, ex-showroom, India.

Key Features of Hilux

The front fascia of the new Toyota Hilux has been completely revised with a honeycomb-pattern grille, slim LED headlamps with LED DRLs (daytime running lamps), a sportier bumper, wide air intakes, prominent ‘TOYOTA’ lettering, a silver skid plate and LED foglamp clusters. The side profile is adorned by 17-inch alloy wheels, black wheel-arch cladding, adjustable and retractable ORVMs, roll bars, a footboard and a shark-fin antenna.

At the rear, the pickup truck sports vertically stacked LED tail-lamps with C-shaped light signatures, a revised bumper with integrated step and ‘TOYOTA’ lettering across the tailgate. Buyers can choose from five colour options: Super White, Platinum Pearl White Metallic, Emotional Red, Attitude Black and Ash Sulphur Metallic.

Inside the cabin, the 2026 Toyota Hilux offers a newly-designed dashboard with an integrated 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch instrument cluster. The pickup truck also comes with a new three-spoke steering wheel with a Toyota badge, soft-touch leatherette surfaces, several physical control buttons, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, a wireless charger, connected car technology, a PM2.5 air filter, rear armrest with cup holders, an 8-speaker audio system and three drive modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Unlike the global-spec model, the India-spec Hilux misses out on several advanced features including ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a larger driver’s display and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system).

On the safety front, the new Hilux offers 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with brake assist, vehicle stability control, a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front and rear parking sensors and Isofix child-seat mounts.

Engine Specifications

Under the hood, the 2026 Toyota Hilux features the same 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, generating a maximum power of 204bhp and 500Nm. It’s available exclusively with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, while the manual gearbox has been discontinued.

For the first time in India, the Hilux is available with both Rear-Wheel-Drive (4x2) variant and Four-Wheel-Drive (4x4) configurations. To enhance the off-road capabilities of the 4x4 version, Toyota has equipped it with a low-range transfer case, electronic differential lock, multiple terrain modes, traction control downhill assist control, and an auto limited-slip differential.

Mileage

Toyota has not officially announced an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure for the India-spec new-generation Hilux.

Dimensions and Boot Space

Dimensionally, the new Hilux measures 5,320 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width and 1,815 mm in height. It sits on a 3,085 mm long wheelbase. The pickup truck features an open cargo bed and doesn’t offer a boot. It has a payload capacity of up to 500kg.

Competition

The Toyota Hilux has a single direct competitor in the lifestyle pickup truck segment, the Isuzu V-Cross. Both models are built on ladder-frame chassis, powered by diesel engines and offer 4x4 off-road capabilities.
