Toyota Next Gen Fortuner

The Toyota Fortuner has completed 17 successful years in the Indian market. Currently in its second generation, the SUV received a midlife update in 2021, followed by a new GR Sport variant in 2022 and the Neo Drive mild hybrid diesel powertrain in 2025. The Fortuner is now closer to its next-generation upgrade and has already been spotted undergoing extensive testing overseas.  

Launch Date

The all-new Toyota Fortuner is expected to make its world debut by late 2026, while its India launch is likely to happen in early 2027. The SUV could make its public appearance at the 2026 Bharat Mobility Show in February.

Expected Price in India

Given its comprehensive design changes along with significant feature and tech upgrades, the new Fortuner is likely to be priced slightly higher than the current generation. At present, the SUV lineup is available within the price range of Rs 34.76 lakh – Rs 50.46 lakh (ex-showroom).

Key Features

Based on the updated IMV ladder frame platform, the next-gen Toyota Fortuner will feature a completely radical design changes heavily inspired by the new Hilux pickup truck. Spy shots reveal that the all-new model will carry a more upright stance, a wider front fascia and a flatter bonnet. The SUV will feature a split headlamp setup, slim LED DRLs (daytime running lights), revised bumpers and slimmer LED taillamps.

Interior details remain under wraps. However, the new Fortuner is expected to be equipped with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a fully digital driver’s display. One of its test mules was spotted with an ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) radar module integrated into the lower section of the front bumper along with cameras mounted behind the windscreen, confirming the inclusion of a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Other expected features include dual 12.3-inch displays, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless smartphone charging, new connectivity features, OTA (over-the-air) updates, a sunroof, a 360-degree camera and more.

Engine Specifications

The 2027 Toyota Fortuner is expected to retain the existing engine lineup for the Indian market, including a 2.7-litre petrol, a 2.8-litre diesel and a 2.8-litre diesel with Toyota’s 48V Neo Drive mild hybrid system. The 2.7L naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired exclusively with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, delivers power worth 166bhp and 245Nm of torque.

The 2.8L turbo diesel engine is good enough for 204bhp and 420Nm (MT) /500 (AT). It can be had either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.8L Neo Drive mild hybrid setup delivers a claimed power of 204bhp and 500Nm of torque. Buyers will continue to have the choice of RWD and 4WD drivetrain configurations.

Competition

In the premium three-row SUV segment, the 2027 Toyota Fortuner will continue to take on the MG Majestor, Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron R-Line.
