Latest Update - Skoda Auto India has launched the latest generation Kodiaq SUV in the Indian market at a starting price Rs 46.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Skoda Kodiaq comes design and interior changes along with some mechanical upgrades. This has transformed SUV into a solid product in the Indian SUV market, focusing on two prime virtues: versatility and high-end features.
The new-gen Kodiaq is available in two main variants: Sportline and Laurin & Klement (L&K). The Skoda Kodiaq price in India starts at Rs ₹36.99 Lakhs* and goes up to Rs ₹57.00 Lakhs*, ex-showroom, India.
The L&K is full of lavish features, but the Sportline trim does most of the essentials at a significantly cheaper price than its sister model. In this regard, it is one of the best value-for-money purchases to be had by those seeking a flavor of luxury but shorn of the added premium. As before, the new Kodiaq is locally assembled in India.
The Kodiaq is very well equipped with a wide range of features that are designed to enhance comfort, convenience, and safety. Among the key highlights include that a new 13-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system comes with compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
On the L&K version, customers get a digital driver's display of 10 inches. The comfort features also include ventilated and heated front seats with a massage function, 3-zone automatic climate control, an electric tailgate with gesture control, power adjustable front seats with memory function, a 360-degree camera and park assist, and a panoramic sunroof that gives customers a perception of luxury inside the cabin.
The Skoda Kodiaq also comes with a long list of safety features. Such features include nine airbags, allowing all passengers to be fully assured of protection. Others include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), 360-degree camera for better parking, Hill Hold Control, and Hill Descent Control are especially useful on slopes or hilly terrain. The Traction Control and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System are also notable, all adding up to an impressive MODEL safety profile. However, it misses out on the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite.
The Skoda Kodiaq comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which is tuned to offer higher power output. This engine produces 201bhp that's 13bhp higher than the previous model, but the torque remains the same at 320Nm. A 7-speed DCT gearbox comes as standard, which sends power to all four wheels via a 4x4 all-wheel-drive system.
The new Kodiaq is claimed to offer an ARAI certified mileage of 14.86kmpl, which is again 1.54kmpl higher than the older model. However, the absence of a diesel variant will be to the disadvantage of buyers who would go by nothing else than a penchant for fuel economy, especially compared to diesel competitors like Toyota Fortuner.
In terms of proportions, the new Skoda Kodiaq is 4758mm long, 1864mm wide and 1679mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2791mm. The SUV has a ground clearance of 155mm. Compared to the previous model, the length and height of the new Kodiaq increased by 59mm and 14mm, respectively. However, the width is decreased by 18mm. The Skoda Kodiaq comes with 281mm-litre boot space, which is 11-litres higher than the previous model. The boot space can be further extended to 786-litres by folding the third-row seat and 1975-litres by folding the second-and third-row seats.
Colorwise, the Skoda Kodiaq boasts seven appealing colours: Bronx Gold Metallic, Steel Grey, Velvet Red Metallic, Race Blue Metallic, Graphite Grey metallic, Magic Black Metallic and Moon White Metallic.
Skoda Kodiaq does share its space in the Indian market with many premium SUVs. These include Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Jeep Meridian. While the Toyota Fortuner has been one of the popular rivals against the Skoda, apart from having a petrol-engine choice, this latter also comes with the option of a diesel engine for those who intend to get better mileage. There's the MG Gloster, offering a higher level of advanced features such as Level 1 autonomous driving capabilities, while the Jeep Meridian gives off-road capability but luxury. The Skoda Kodiaq is famous for its strong performance as well as robust safety features in the face of great competition.
