Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner Set for Its Biggest Upgrade Yet

Next-gen Toyota Fortuner could debut before the end of FY2026-27. The SUV is expected to move to the TNGA-F platform and gain hybrid technology. A new cabin with dual 12.3-inch screens and upgraded ADAS is expected.

Toyota is preparing the next-generation Fortuner, which is expected to make its global debut before the end of FY2026-27. Development vehicles are already undergoing testing overseas, with the new seven-seat SUV expected to arrive in India sometime after its international debut.

The new Fortuner is set to bring major changes underneath and inside the cabin while retaining its traditional body-on-frame construction.

New Platform for the Fortuner

One of the biggest changes will be the move to Toyota's TNGA-F ladder-frame platform. The same architecture already underpins the latest global Hilux and several larger Toyota SUVs.

The new platform is expected to improve structural rigidity and ride quality while maintaining the Fortuner's off-road capability. It could also provide Toyota with greater flexibility to introduce electrified powertrains.

Hybrid Technology Coming

The next-generation Fortuner is expected to get hybrid technology as part of its global powertrain line-up. Toyota already offers strong-hybrid models such as the Innova HyCross and Urban Cruiser Hyryder in India. However, the Fortuner is likely to use a different hybrid system suited to its larger dimensions and ladder-frame architecture. Exact engine and hybrid specifications have not yet been revealed.

Sharper New Design

The new Fortuner is expected to retain its upright and muscular stance but will receive a major exterior redesign. Spy images suggest slimmer LED headlamps, a larger grille and a redesigned front bumper. The SUV could also feature more prominent character lines and revised proportions.

At the rear, Toyota could introduce a full-width LED lighting element connecting the redesigned tail lamps. Fortuner lettering across the tailgate could also give the SUV a cleaner appearance. New alloy wheel designs are expected as part of the exterior update.

Much-Improved Cabin

Toyota is also expected to make major changes to the interior, particularly in terms of technology and equipment. The next-gen Fortuner could feature dual 12.3-inch screens, with one serving as the digital instrument cluster and the other as the infotainment display.

Other expected features include connected-car technology, over-the-air software updates, a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera and an upgraded climate-control system. The SUV is also expected to get a more comprehensive ADAS package, helping it match the technology offered by newer rivals.

Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner India Launch

The next-generation Fortuner is expected to make its global debut before the end of FY2026-27, with the India launch likely to follow later. With a new platform, hybrid technology, redesigned styling and a heavily upgraded cabin, the next Fortuner could represent the biggest change to Toyota's popular SUV in years. Importantly, Toyota is expected to retain the body-on-frame construction and rugged character that have made the Fortuner popular in India.
