Kia Seltos - Which Engine & Gearbox Combination to Buy?

Kia Seltos - Which Engine & Gearbox Combination to Buy?

Ever since its launch, the Kia Seltos has been a game-changer product for the Korean brand in India. The compact (over 4 metres) SUV brings in good sales numbers every month despite the segment being reigned by the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara. Notably, the Kia Seltos comes with three engine options - 2 petrol and 1 diesel - and 5 gearbox options. It can be daunting to select the right engine and gearbox combination and this blog will help you in selecting the right fit according to your driving needs. Kia Seltos - Dimensions Kia Seltos 1.5L NA Petrol 1.5L Turbo-Petrol 1.5L Diesel Length x Width x Height (mm) 4365 x 1800 x 1645 Ground Clearance (mm) 165 Boot Space (L) 433 Wheelbase 2610 Kia Seltos - 1.5-Litre Naturally Aspirated Petrol Engine Engine 1.5-Litre Non-Turbo Power (Bhp)  113 Torque (Nm) 144 Transmissions 6MT/ iVT* Mileage (Kmpl) 17 - 17.7 Ex-showroom Price (Lakh) Rs 10.90 - 18.06 *iVT: Intelligent Variable Transmission The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit is recommended for city residents. It feels refined and smooth to drive and produces sufficient punch to drive around the town. This engine is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and iVT unit. Do note that the iVT automatic does not have features like a wireless charger, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-way powered seats, ventilated seats and ADAS.  User Experience - I stay in Pune and own a manual Kia Seltos. There is nothing like a manual transmission and the shifts feel extremely smooth. Even the clutch is not heavy and during overtakes, the response is just amazing.  - The idea with iVT is to create an almost automatic-like environment with a manual gearbox. It does take some time to adjust with no clutch operation when shifting gears. It also feels notchy sometimes and would not suggest this for spirited driving. Kia Seltos - 1.5-Litre Turbo Petrol Engine Engine 1.5-Litre Turbo Power (Bhp)  158 Torque (Nm) 253 Transmissions 6iMT*/ 7DCT* Mileage (Kmpl) 17.5 Ex-showroom Price (Lakh) Rs 15.62 - 20.45 *6iMT: 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission - Lets you change gears without the need for a clutch pedal *7DCT: 7-speed DCT - Dual Clutch Automatic Transmission Up next, there is the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. For those not in the know, the 1.5-litre block replaces the older 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. This engine is more powerful than the previous one and has one of the highest power and torque figures in the compact SUV segment. In the manual guise, only a 6-speed iMT is offered but for those looking for fast shifts, Kia also offers a 7-speed DCT automatic.  User Experience - Kia’s dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters is super quick. Downshifts and upshifts are lightning-fast and you also have the comfort of driving an automatic in stop-go traffic. However, it tends to get overheated at times during the summer and when driving in first gear for long. Kia Seltos - 1.5-Litre Diesel Engine Engine 1.5-Litre Turbo Power (Bhp)  114 Torque (Nm) 250 Transmissions 6MT/ 6iMT/ 6AT Mileage (Kmpl) 20.7 Ex-showroom Price (Lakh) Rs 12.46 - 20.37 While major car brands like Maruti Suzuki have removed diesel engines from their lineup, Kia continues to offer a diesel with the Seltos in 2024. It might not be the most powerful in the segment but has enough punch to keep you happy, especially over highway drives. It gets the most number of transmissions - a 6-speed manual transmission, 6-speed iMT and 6-speed automatic. This engine is best suited for mile munchers. User Experience  - Diesel rocket! A manual is a manual is a manual. Just drop a gear and let it rev till the turbo spools up. The pushback that you get from the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine is addictive. Even the mileage on this one does not seem to go down and let me tell you, I love doing high speeds during weekends - The torque converter 6-speed automatic transmission on my diesel Kia Seltos is very good. No problem so far and I have been driving it for 8 months. Highly recommend it for those who want high mileage and comfortable driving. Suggested for elderly people.  Also read - Maruti Grand Vitara Vs Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder - Which is More Practical?

Kia Seltos Variant Explained - Which One to Buy?

As the best option for the family, the Kia Seltos compact SUV provides fantastic space and luxury well-balanced with a heavy-duty list of features that make it look appealing, hence making it a highly sought-after option in a highly competitive market. The more affordable prices will cut into the overall appeal though, beginning with the price range of Rs. 10.90 lakh to Rs. 20.35 lakh, ex-showroom. This blog discusses all the variants of Kia Seltos to ensure that the best one is picked for your needs. Pros and Cons of 2024 Kia Seltos Petrol Pros (Advantages) High-end variants come with loads of equipment, including dual zone AC, adaptive cruise control, and a large touchscreen. It is best-in-class in terms of space and power, hence a strong performer. The value for money in its price is also outstanding, as it comes with features of GTX plus advanced safety. Turbo petrol packs a punch with good power and decent efficiency. Spacious interiors and a premium feel ensure that this car is pretty hassle-free for any family. Cons (Disadvantages or Weaknesses) Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not offered with the larger touchscreen. Therefore, for the technology-addicted customers, that becomes a letdown. The rear armrest isn't on the base version, so three-split rear seats become uncomfortable. The lower models feel slightly incomplete with less weightage. When the base variant does not offer many features, then in the same price bracket, the competitor MG Astor has much more to offer. Lower and middle variants carry much less importance and less appeal.  Top-shelf features are missed in the diesel and petrol engines by Creta's competitors. ADAS is present only on automatic turbo-petrol variants, just like with the engine lineup. The manual and non-turbo variants are missing. 2024 Kia Seltos Variants and Prices The 2024 Kia Seltos petrol variants come in a host of powertrains for different tastes. Here's everything you get and at what price. Powertrain Options 1.5L Normal Petrol: Manual Automatic (CVT) 1.5L Turbo Petrol: Auto-Clutch Manual Transmission (ACMT) Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) Price Breakdown 1.5-litre normal petrol Variant Manual Price Automatic Price HTE Rs.10,89,900 - HTK Rs. 12,23,900 - HTK Plus Rs. 14,05,900 Rs. 15,41,900 HTX Rs. 15,29,900 Rs. 16,71,900 The premium for Automatic: Rs. 1.40 lakh over the manual for HTK Plus and HTX 1.5L Turbo Petrol Variant Automatic Price DCA Price HTK Plus Rs. 15,44,900 - GTX +(S) - Rs.19.39,900 X-Line (S)  - Rs. 19,64,900 HTX Plus Rs. 18,72,900 Rs. 19,72,900 GTX Plus - Rs. 19,99,900 X-Line - Rs. 20,34,900 AMT Price: HTK Plus costs Rs. 1.39 lakh more than the normal petrol manual. DCT Price Comparison: DCT variants cost Rs. 1.00 lakh more than the corresponding turbo-petrol variants with AMT. Normal Petrol Prices: Between Rs. 10.89 lakh (HTE) and Rs. 16.71 lakh (HTX Automatic). Turbo Petrol Prices: Between Rs. 15.44 lakh (HTK Plus with AMT) and Rs. 20.34 lakh (X Line with DCT). The new Kia Seltos has several options and features at various price points and is a very competitive player in the segment of compact SUVs. Kia Seltos Petrol HTE - Base Model Standard Features The price of the Kia Seltos facelift starts at Rs.10.90 lakh, so it has a 1.5-litre normal petrol-manual powertrain as the base model variant. Here is an exhaustive list of standard features in the HTE variant: Standard Features Interior Features Exterior Features Safety Features Height-Adjustable Driver Seat Body-colored bumpers, door handles, and mirrors All Standard Safety Features Front Armrest Halogen Projector Headlamps  Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Adjustable Front Headrests 16-inch steel wheels with covers Remote Central Locking Rear Window Curtains Front and rear skid plates Gear-Shift Indicator 12V Power Outlet Shark fin antenna All Disc Brakes Idle Start/Stop Follow-Me-Home Headlamps 5x 3-Point Seatbelts Sunglass Holder   Airbags & 2x Curtain Airbags Rear AC Vents   2x Front Side Thorax  Fabric Upholstery   Speed-Sensing Auto Door Lock Front Passenger Vanity Mirror   Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)     Impact-Sensing Auto Door Unlock     Hill Start Assist (HSA) Features not in HTE The HTE version does well, though there is something the buyer might go wrong with: Rear armrest The rear headrests are adjustable. Automatic AC Power mirrors Touch-screen music system with speakers Steering-mounted controls Rear parcel tray Rear camera The Kia Seltos HTE Petrol is one of the best choices for budget-conscious buyers, featuring only as many features and safety at an interestingly affordable price. Though it misses out on some convenience features available on the higher variants, you can simply add them on with aftermarkets, so there's no dire need to splurge on pricier models.  Kia Seltos HTK - Price and Features  The HTK variant of the Kia Seltos features a 1.5-litre normal petrol engine, and the same is offered for Rs. 12.24 lakh. This means it will cost Rs. 1.34 lakh more than the base model of the Seltos facelift. Price Comparison Engine HTE Difference HTK 1.5-litre normal petrol Rs. 10,89,900 Rs. 1,34,000 Rs. 12,23,900 Features of HTK over HTE                                               Features of HTK over HTE 8-inch Touchscreen Auto Headlamps Wireless Android Auto Driver Window 1-Touch Down Wireless Apple CarPlay Power Mirrors Live Rear Camera Feed (DRVM) Front Parking Sensors Rear Camera with Guidelines Indicators on Outside Mirrors USB and Bluetooth Connectivity Boot Lamp 4 Speakers and 2 Tweeters Projector Fog Lamps Features Not Available in HTK Rear Washer Wiper Rear Defogger Automatic AC LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) Rear Armrest Keyless Entry with Push-Button Start/Stop Split-folding rear seatbacks Adjustable Rear Headrests The HTK version is much more worthwhile than the HTE version. It also offers a very developed infotainment system and an additional safety feature. But it is available with a Rs. 12.23 lakh price tag. This makes it Rs. 1,34,000 better than the HTE. Despite the improvements, the version of HTK lacks some vital information, so its overall worth may be compromised. The tighter budget will find the HTE version to be practical, but it can still be modded with after-market accessories later. Kia Seltos HTK Plus Variant - Price and Feature Comparison There are quite some options available with the HTK Plus variant that would include 1.5-litre normal petrol-automatic and 1.5-litre turbo petrol-ACMT engines. The priced versions of the variants in the normal petrol manual are Rs. 14.06 lakh, followed by an automatic one Rs.15.42 lakh, and the last variant for turbo petrol-auto-clutch is Rs. 15.45 lakh.  The petrol-manual version is Rs. 1.82 lakh above the price of HTK. Upgradation for the turbo petrol-ACMT costs Rs 1.39 lakh more than this and Rs. 1.36 lakh more special than the normal petrol-automatic. Price Overview Engine HTK Difference HTK Plus 1.5-litre normal petrol manual Rs. 12,23,900 Rs. 1,82000 Rs. 14,05,900 1.5-litre normal petrol automatic - Rs. 1,36,000 Rs. 15,41,900 1.5-litre turbo-petrol ACMT - Rs. 1,39,000 Rs. 15,44,900 Additional Features of HTK Plus                                              Features of HTK Plus over HTK Keyless Entry with Push-Button Start/Stop Panoramic Sunroof Auto AC LED Reading Lamps Rear Defogger Silver Roof Rails Cruise Control Leather Wrapped Gear Knob Power-folding outside mirrors Gloss Black Dashboard Garnish 1-Touch Driver Window Up LED cabin lamps Rear Washer Wiper Paddle Shifters (Auto Only) LED DRLs Drive Modes (Eco, Normal, Sport - Automatic Only) 16-inch alloy wheels LED Ambient Lights Features Not Available in HTK Plus Rear armrests Split-folding rear seatbacks LED headlamps Telescopic steering Adaptive rear headrests There are many differences between the two variants. The HTK Plus variant has more powertrain options, sophisticated safety features, and prestige touches like a panoramic sunroof. The price difference is Rs. 1,82,000 for the petrol-manual variant. While the HTK Plus has some attractive features going for it, it does miss some essentials that most buyers at this price expect. For all those looking to see a turbo petrol option, the HTK Plus with the auto-clutch manual transmission might be an option. Kia Seltos HTX and HTX Plus Variant: Price and Features  The HTX variant is offered with a normal petrol engine and manual as well as a CVT-type automatic transmission. The price begins at Rs. 15.30 lakh for the manual and Rs. 16.72 lakh for the automatic. That puts it between Rs. 1.24 lakh to Rs. 1.30 lakh more than the HTK Plus. The HTX Plus of the Seltos is available with a turbo-petrol engine only. The auto version of the turbo petrol-ACMT costs Rs. 18.73 lakh, whereas the auto version costs Rs. 19.73 lakh. To get the HTX Plus, you have to pay the extra amount of Rs. 3.28 lakh against the HTK Plus turbo-ACMT. The lack of difficulty in changing the gear manually adds an extra Rs. 1 lakh to choose the automatic transmission. Price Overview Engine HTX Difference HTX Plus 1.5L Turbo Petrol - AMT Rs. 18,72,900 Rs. 3,28,000 Rs. 18,73,000 1.5L Turbo Petrol - Automatic - - Rs. 19,73,000 HTX Plus Additional Features                                           Features of HTX Plus over HTX Wireless Phone Charger Bose Premium Sound System 8-Way Power Driver Seat Additional Subwoofer and Center Stage Speaker Black Interiors with Brown Accents 10.25-inch Full-Colour LCD Instrument Cluster Heat-resistant windshield and side windows Machined Alloy Wheels (ACMT) Ventilated Front Seats   Features Not Available in HTX Plus ADAS-related features are not present in the HTX Plus variant of the vehicle. The capabilities are only available in GTX Plus or the X-Line variant. Apart from the luxury features, such as a wireless charger and premium sound system, the HTX Plus variant costs an additional Rs. 3,28,000 more than the HTX variant. Of course, at such a high price difference, you get less for your money unless you want the turbo-petrol engine and are prepared to sacrifice the ADAS features. Kia Seltos GTXPlus and GTX Plus (S) Over HTX Plus Variant - Price and Features In GTX Plus, only the turbo petrol-automatic version is available, priced at Rs. 20.0 lakh, Rs. 27,000 more than the HTX Plus. Alternatively, the GTX Plus (S) variant is priced at Rs. 19.40 lakh. That makes it Rs. 60,000 less than the GTX Plus and Rs. 43,000 less than the HTX Plus with almost all of its ADAS features. Price Overview Engine GTX Plus (S) Difference HTX Plus Difference GTX Plus 1.5-litre turbo-petrol - AMT - - Rs. 18,72,900 - - 1.5-litre turbo-petrol - Automatic Rs. 19,39,900 43,000 Rs. 19,72,900 Rs. 27,000 Rs. 20,00,000 GTX Plus Additional Features                              Features of GTX Plus (S), GTX Plus over HTX Plus 18-inch machined alloy wheels Regress cross-traffic collision warning GT Line Exclusive Body Kit Electronic parking brake with auto hold Dual Exhaust Tips 360-degree camera view Black Leather Upholstery Metallic Pedals ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) Pre-Collision Warning Lateral Steer Assistance Lane Departure Warning Adaptive Cruise Control Blind-Spot Monitoring                               Features which are not available in GTX Plus (S) Bose premium sound system 360-degree camera 1x subwoofer Blind spot monitoring in the instrument cluster 1x centre-stage speaker   Features not included in GTX Plus Power tailgate for an easier opening Head-up display Power passenger seat Seat memory for driver's seat The GTX Plus does offer many more upgrades than the HTX Plus, especially advanced safety features along with a sportier design. For that extra value, the price difference is small enough, hence making the GTX Plus a great recommendation for anyone looking into the turbo-petrol-automatic options. Kia Seltos X Line over GTX Plus Variant - Price and Feature  The top variant of the Seltos 2024 is the X Line, available for Rs. 20.35 lakh, which is an additional Rs. 35,000 over the GTX Plus. You could, however, also go for the X Line (S), which costs Rs 70,000 less, but it would miss out on some features. Price Overview Engine Variant Price (Ex-showroom) Difference 1.5-litre turbo-petrol Auto (DCT) GTX Plus Rs. 19,99,900 - GTX Plus (S) Rs. 19,39,900 Rs. 60,000 X Line Rs. 20,34,900 Rs. 35,000 X Line (S) Rs. 19,64,900 Rs. 70,000 X Line Additional Features                                 Features of X Line and X Line (S) Over GTX Plus Matte Grey Exterior Finish Head-Up Display Black Grille and Door Handles Grey Cabin Decor Grey Leather Seats Gloss Black Front and Rear Skid Plates                                           Features not available in X Line (S) Bose premium sound system 360-degree camera Blind spot monitoring in the instrument cluster 1x subwoofer 1x centre-stage speaker   Features not included in X Line  Power Tailgate Power Passenger Seat Memory Function for Driver Seat One differs in its aesthetic and becomes the X Line variant, whereby, indeed, more styling features exist beyond the existing features of the GTX Plus. The price difference is, however, minimal, but the added safety features such as ADAS make the option of the GTX Plus a very interesting choice for people who have top priorities on the side of technology and safety. Conclusion The Kia Seltos is available in so many trim levels that appeal to a huge extent towards varied needs and budgets. Entry-level would, of course, be the HTE, but then there is an X-Line too, and now the fun part, a new Gravity Edition. Despite the entry battle having plenty of competitors with hybrids, the Seltos has a lot going for it to become a good contender in the compact SUV space. As you select your Seltos, think about how your values about your family, advanced technology, comfort, or great fuel efficiency shape your choice. Ultimately, it will be important to understand what these differences mean between the Seltos variants to select the vehicle that fits your family's needs.
