Latest Update - Volkswagen has launched the much-awaited Golf GTI, a performance oriented hatchback in the Indian market. Priced at Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new model comes as a fully built unit (FBU). 

This hot hatch is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The VW Golf GTI is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 5.9 seconds.

Key Features of Volkswagen Golf GTI

The fully-imported hot hatch is equipped with several comfort and convenience features. It comes with a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support,  and a 10.25-inch customisable digital driver’s display. Other features include 7-speaker immersive sound, wireless charging, exterior ambient lighting with wake-up & goodbye effect, 18-inch “Richmond”, diamond-tuned face wheels, and twin chrome exhausts. It gets 30-colour ambient lighting, leather-wrapped sports steering wheel with GTI clasp, paddle shifters, panoramic sunroof, 3-zone climate control, keyless start with pulse effect and SAFELOCK.

For safety and security, the Golf GTI gets seven airbags, a rear view camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX Anchors and XDS electronic front differential lock. It also gets LEVEL 2 ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, Lane Assist, autonomous emergency braking, park distance control and others.

The new Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 261bhp and 370Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The hot hatchback also gets an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock that enhances road grip. 

Top Speed & Acceleration - the new Golf is claimed to achieve 0-100 km/h before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The Golf GTI is available in 4 exterior colours including Moonstone Grey, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Kings Red Metallic and Onyx White Mother of Pearl Effect. 

Dimensions and Boot Space of VW Golf GTI

The new Golf GTI measures 4289mm in length, 1789mm in width and 1471mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,627mm. The hot hatch has a ground clearance of 136mm, while the fuel tank has 45-litres capacity. The VW Golf GTI has a boot space of 380-litres, which is more than sufficient to carry 3 suitcases and your weekend bags. One can increase the boot space of 1237-litres by folding the second-row seats.

Competition

The VW Golf GTI has not direct rival in our market; however, it can impact the sales of MINI Cooper S priced between Rs 44.90 lakh and Rs 55.90 lakh.
