BMW X1 LWB

BMW India has introduced the Long Wheelbase (LWB) version of the entry-level X1 range. The X1 LWB is a longer version of the X1, and the ICE-powered derivative of the hugely popular iX1 LWB. The SUV is available in a single 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Thanks to its longer wheelbase, the X1 LWB offers a boot space of 540-litres that's 64L larger than the standard X1's boot.

The new X1 LWB is available in single variant. The BMW X1 LWB price in India starts at ₹49.90 Lakhs*, ex-showroom, India. Thanks to local assembly, the SUV is around Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the standard-wheelbase X1 and Rs 2.8 lakh more affordable than the iX1 LWB.

Key Features

The BMW X1 LWB looks largely identical to the standard-wheelbase model, except for the elongated wheelbase and side profile. It comes with swept-back LED headlamps, signature BMW kidney grille, a dual-ridge roof spoiler, sharper LED tail-lights and an M-Sport cosmetic package as standard. The SUV rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. BMW has added subtle aluminium satin detailing on the window surrounds and other exterior trim pieces.

The BMW X1 LWB's interior looks similar to the standard X1. It is packed with features such as a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electrically adjustable front seats, and a 360-degree camera. Other features include a fixed panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, connected car tech, auto park assist, a digital key, a wireless charging pad and more.

Safety Features

For safety and security, the BMW X1 LWB gets LEVEL 1 ADAS with features like lane assist, emergency braking and others. It comes with 8 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, a 360-degree surround view camera, electronic parking brake, ISOFIX child seat mounts, all-wheel disc brakes and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The new BMW X1 LWB is available in 4 exterior paint schemes - Carbon Black, Night Dusk Blue, Mineral White and Skyscrapper Grey.

Dimensions and Boot Space

In terms of proportions, the BMW X1 LWB is 4616mm in length, 1845mm in width, and 1641mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2800mm. The wheelbase is increased by good 108mm, resulting in more space inside the cabin and bigger boot. The SUV offers a larger cargo space at 540-litres, which can be extended by up to 1700-litres by folding down the second-row seats.

Engine Specifications

The BMW X1 LWB is powered by a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, direct-injection turbo-petrol engine that produces 156hp and a peak torque of 230Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in 8.6 seconds.

The BMW X1 LWB will directly rival the Mercedes-Benz GLA, MINI Countryman C and the Audi Q3. It also rivals the bigger SUVs like the VW Tayron, Honda ZR-V and Skoda Kodiaq.
