MINI Countryman Electric

The new Mini Countryman Electric was introduced in India in July 2024. Similar to its ICE (internal combustion engine) version, it combines a unique retro design with modern features, offering the practicality of an SUV with zero-emission driving. Compared to its previous generation, the new model features a more mature yet minimalistic design language and has grown in size. 

It is 130mm longer and 60mm taller than its predecessor. At the front, it sports a new octagonal grille, revised headlamps without bezels, new taillamps, a revised bumper with black plastic cladding, and contrasting trims. The wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inches, and the SUV is available in dual-tone colors. The electric compact SUV continues Mini’s legacy of being fun to drive, with the added benefits of an electric powertrain.

Key Features of Countryman Electric

The interior is premium and comfortable, with high-quality leather seat upholstery and numerous advanced features. It follows a circular design theme across the dashboard and center console. The dashboard houses a 9.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system running on Mini’s latest software. While the user interface is responsive, the unit does not support Android Auto connectivity. The instrument cluster behind the new three-spoke steering wheel is missing, and most vehicle settings are controlled via the touchscreen. 

The center console features a single band of toggle switches for key functions, along with larger cupholders. The increased length provides an additional 130mm of legroom for rear-seat passengers. The Countryman is the first Mini to feature a Level 2 ADAS suite. Other features of this electric crossover SUV include a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, a heads-up display (HUD), a fisheye camera for selfies, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and traction control. Ambient lighting comes with several customizable color options.

Dimensions and Boot Space

The Mini Countryman Electric measures 4445mm in length, 1843mm in width, and 1635mm in height. Compared to the ICE-powered Countryman, its electric counterpart offers 10 liters of extra boot space, bringing the total to 460 liters. This cargo volume can be tripled by folding the rear seats, which have a 40:20:40 split ratio.

How Safe is the Car?

Safety is one of the strongest aspects of the Countryman. This electric crossover SUV is equipped with a crash sensor, ABS with EBD, a reverse camera, Isofix child seat anchors, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane-keeping assist, cornering brake control, dynamic stability control, brake assist, and a tire pressure indicator.

Engine Specifications

The powertrain of the Countryman Electric includes a 66.4kWh battery pack (sourced from the BMW iX1) and an electric motor. The combined power and torque outputs are 204bhp and 250Nm, respectively. With its front-wheel drive (FWD) system, the crossover SUV accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 8.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 170kmph. Mini claims that the Countryman Electric offers a range of 462km (WLTP cycle) on a single charge. For charging, its battery can go from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes using a 130kW fast charger. It can be fully charged in 3 hours and 45 minutes using a 22kW AC charger.
