Volkswagen India has launched the Golf GTI at Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom). This launch makes the Golf GTI the most expensive Volkswagen model currently on sale in the country. The model arrives via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route, and the first batch of 150 units is already sold out. Based on rising interest, the German automaker is planning to import another 100 units to meet demand. Read More
The exterior of the Golf GTI features a sportier design compared to the standard Golf sold in global markets. It sports an illuminated VW logo, Matrix LED headlamps joined by a sleek LED DRL strip, and X-shaped LED fog lights on the aggressive front bumper. A distinctive red accent line runs across the grille, complemented by GTI badging at the front, sides, and rear.
At the back, the hatch gets smoked LED tail-lights, dual exhaust tips, and a roof spoiler that adds to its sporty stance. The GTI rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and features signature red brake calipers that reinforce its performance-oriented identity.
Buyers can choose from four colour options: Grenadilla Black, Kings Red, Moonstone Grey, and Oryx White.
Inside, the Golf GTI carries forward its performance legacy with sport seats featuring red 'GTI' stitching and classic tartan fabric inserts. The cabin is equipped with a leather-wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel that also bears the GTI badge.
The dashboard houses a large 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen alongside a 10.25-inch digital driver display. Other comfort and convenience features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, paddle shifters, three-zone automatic climate control, 30-colour ambient lighting, and heated front seats.
Volkswagen has loaded the Golf GTI with a host of safety technologies. It comes with seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and a rear-view camera. Additionally, the car includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), offering features such as lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and autonomous emergency braking.
At the heart of the Volkswagen Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 265hp and 370Nm of torque. This powertrain is the same as the one offered in the recently launched Tiguan R Line in India. It comes paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.
The GTI is equipped with an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock, enhancing handling and stability. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 250 km/h. In comparison, the Mini Cooper S, one of its main rivals in the segment, takes 6.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h and tops out at 242 km/h.
