2026 Hyundai Exter and Verna Facelifts - What to Expect

Hyundai India is gearing up to launch facelift versions of two of its popular models – the Hyundai Exter and the Hyundai Verna – in 2026. Both models were first introduced in 2023, and the move to refresh them just three years later signals a faster product update cycle from the Korean carmaker.

Hyundai Verna Facelift

Hyundai Verna, a mid-size sedan that competes with the Honda City, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia, will receive a mid-cycle update. Spy shots of the test model reveal that most of the cosmetic changes will be concentrated at the front. The rear and sides are expected to remain largely unchanged, with similar tail-lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a slightly redesigned rear bumper. The Verna’s current aggressive front design has sparked mixed reactions, so Hyundai may tweak it to appeal to a wider audience.

Inside, the Verna is likely to retain its current layout but could offer new features and improved safety tech. Under the hood, there are no expected changes. The sedan will continue with its existing engine lineup – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115hp and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 160hp. The transmission options will also remain the same, with a 6-speed manual, CVT for the NA petrol, and a 7-speed DCT for the turbo variant. With the update, pricing is expected to increase from the current Rs 11.07 lakh to Rs 17.58 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Exter Facelift

Hyundai Exter, a compact SUV aimed at rivals like the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger, will also receive a facelift. While details are limited, the changes are expected to be mostly cosmetic. The refreshed Exter may offer updated upholstery, new features, and additional safety enhancements. The engine options will stay the same – a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83hp and a 1.2-litre CNG variant delivering 69hp. Both versions currently come with a manual gearbox or an AMT option for the petrol model. The facelifted Exter is likely to be priced higher than the current model, which ranges between Rs 6.00 lakh and Rs 10.51 lakh (ex-showroom).

With these updates, Hyundai aims to keep its product lineup fresh and competitive in two of the most important segments of the Indian car market – compact SUVs and mid-size sedans. More details on both facelifts are expected to emerge closer to their respective launch timelines in 2026.
