Kia India Confirms Hybrid and CNG Cars; 8 Electrified Models by 2030

Kia plans to have eight electrified models in India by 2030. Hybrid and factory-fitted CNG vehicles are under development. Seltos, Sorento and Carnival are expected to get hybrid powertrains.

Kia India has announced its long-term plan for the Indian market, confirming that it is working on hybrid and factory-fitted CNG vehicles. The company says it wants to offer customers a wider choice of powertrains instead of focusing on just one technology. As part of this strategy, Kia aims to have eight electrified models in its India lineup by 2030.

Hybrid Models Are on the Way

Kia already has a strong presence in the electric vehicle space. The company currently sells the EV6, EV9, Carens Clavis EV and the recently launched Syros EV in India.

The next step is to expand its hybrid lineup. Kia has already confirmed that a strong-hybrid version of the Seltos is under development. The company is also working on localising the hybrid system, which should help make the technology more affordable. Kia has not shared a launch timeline for the Seltos Hybrid yet.

Sorento and Carnival Could Join the Hybrid Lineup

The company is also expected to launch the Sorento in India in the coming months. The three-row SUV is likely to arrive with a strong-hybrid powertrain and could become Kia's first hybrid SUV in the country. The Carnival is also expected to receive a hybrid version for India.

With hybrid versions of the Seltos, Sorento and Carnival, Kia's electrified lineup would grow to seven models. This means another model, possibly the Sonet or Syros, could also get a hybrid powertrain to help the company reach its target of eight electrified vehicles by 2030.

Factory-Fitted CNG Models Confirmed

Kia has also confirmed that it is developing factory-fitted CNG models for India. At present, the company offers a dealer-installed CNG kit only for the Carens. However, Kia says work on factory-fitted CNG vehicles is already underway.

The company is studying demand across different segments, which means the technology may not be limited to MPVs. SUVs and other models in Kia's lineup could also receive factory-fitted CNG options in the future.
