6 New Cars to Watch in September 2026

September is going to be an action-packed month for the Indian car market. With the festive season approaching, carmakers are bringing a mix of new launches, facelifts, hybrid models and electric vehicles to showrooms.

The month will see products from mass-market brands as well as luxury carmakers, giving buyers options across several segments. Some of these models have been awaited for quite some time, while others are entering completely new spaces for their respective brands. Here are the six key launches to keep an eye on this month.

1. Kia Sorento – 4 September

Kia is kicking off the month with one of its most important launches. The Sorento will be launched in India on 4 September and will introduce the brand’s hybrid powertrain to the Indian market for the first time. Bookings are already open and the first units have started reaching dealerships, suggesting that deliveries could commence shortly after the price announcement. The three-row SUV gets a premium cabin with a curved dual-screen setup, a new four-spoke steering wheel, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Other equipment includes Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, all-LED lighting and a powered tailgate. The Sorento will enter a competitive premium SUV space, taking on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, MG Majestor, Volkswagen Tayron and Skoda Kodiaq.

2. Maruti Baleno Facelift – 5 September

Just a day later, Maruti Suzuki will bring the updated Baleno to the market. The facelift is expected to give the premium hatchback a more refreshed look while adding new technology and a revised powertrain lineup. One of the biggest changes will be the introduction of the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z Series petrol engine. The same engine is currently offered in the Swift, where it develops 80bhp and 112Nm and can be paired with either a five-speed manual or AMT. Another important addition is expected to be the CNG-AMT combination. If introduced as planned, the Baleno will become only the second car in its segment to offer this combination after the Tata Altroz. Maruti is also giving the Baleno more equipment, including ventilated front seats and an ADAS package. Visual changes are expected to include a redesigned grille, updated bumpers, new alloy wheels and fresh colour options.

3. Renault Triber Turbo – September 2026

The Renault Triber has traditionally focused on practicality and affordability, but that formula is set to change with the arrival of a turbocharged version. Renault has confirmed that the Triber Turbo will make its debut in India this month, although the exact launch date has not yet been announced. Under the bonnet will be a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 99bhp and 160Nm. These figures match the output of the turbo-petrol unit used in the Kiger. The upcoming Triber will also shift from the CMF-A platform to Renault Group’s Entry Platform (RGEP). Importantly, the new turbo-petrol variant will not replace the existing naturally aspirated engine, which continues to produce 71bhp and 96Nm. Renault has also been testing a turbo-CNG version, although details about its launch remain unclear.

4. BMW i5 LWB – September 2026

The luxury EV segment will get another addition with the arrival of the BMW i5 LWB. The long-wheelbase electric sedan was announced as part of BMW’s plans to expand its India portfolio and is expected to have its price announced during the first half of September. Pre-bookings are already open, and the model will be offered in standard and First Edition forms. The LWB version gets an additional 100mm in both overall length and wheelbase compared to the regular i5. As a result, it stretches to 5.1 metres in length, with a 3.10-metre wheelbase. Power comes from an 81.6kWh battery and a single electric motor driving the rear wheels. The motor develops 268bhp, while BMW claims a range of 669km under the MIDC testing cycle.

5. BMW 7 Series and i7 Facelift – 11 September

BMW will have another big day in September when it launches the updated 7 Series and i7 in India on 11 September. The changes are not limited to a new look. The facelifted models get an illuminated grille, redesigned lighting elements and updated LED tail lamps. Inside, BMW has introduced a new 17.9-inch touchscreen with an updated operating system, along with a 14.6-inch display for the front passenger. The dashboard also gets a full-width display on the windscreen, replacing the traditional instrument cluster setup. A new four-spoke steering wheel is another notable addition. For rear-seat passengers, the highlight remains the massive 31.3-inch 8K screen. BMW has also made a number of mechanical changes to the updated 7 Series and i7 range. Bookings for the new models are already underway.

6. Porsche Cayenne Electric – September 2026

The final entry on our list is one of the most powerful. Porsche is preparing to officially introduce the Cayenne Electric in India this month. There is an interesting twist here: the electric SUV has already been listed in India, with prices starting at Rs. 1.77 crore (ex-showroom). The upcoming event will therefore serve as its official market introduction. The Cayenne Electric gets a 113kWh battery paired with dual electric motors. The regular Cayenne Electric and Cayenne S Electric produce 402bhp and 835Nm, while the flagship Cayenne Turbo Electric takes things much further with 844bhp and 1,500Nm. Porsche claims a range of up to 643km, putting the electric Cayenne among the most capable premium electric SUVs available in the country.
