BYD Atto 2 spotted testing ahead of India launch. Expected with premium features, EV and PHEV powertrain options.
BYD (Build Your Dreams), one of the world’s largest NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) manufacturers, currently sells four EVs in India - the Atto 3, eMax7, Seal and Sealion 7. Aiming to further expand its product portfolio, the Chinese EV market is planning to introduce the Seal U PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) and Atto 2 SUVs by the end of this year. Ahead of its official arrival, the BYD Atto 2 midsize SUV has been spotted testing on the Indian roads.
Spy shots suggest that the BYD Atto 2 will feature gloss black trim with a centrally positioned BYD badge, connecting the sleek LED headlamps, sporty black cladding on the wheel arches and lower section of the side profile and, alloy wheels with a petal-shaped design. Similar to the global-spec version, the India-bound model is expected to feature connected LED taillamps and a sporty black bumper with silver accents at the rear.
The windscreen integrated a camera-based ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) sensor was also visible on the test mule. Inside the cabin, the Atto 2 will feature a free-standing 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment system and all-black seat upholstery.
Other expected features include an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, a 6-speaker audio system, front and rear parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, a 3-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons, a 360-degree camera, a 50W wireless phone charger, a vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging function and more.
In the European markets, the BYD Atto 2 is available with both all-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain options. The electric version comes with either a 45.1kWh or a 64.8kWh battery pack, delivering a WLTP range of up to 430km. Both battery packs are paired with a front-axle-mounted (FWD) electric motor, generating power worth 201bhp and 310Nm of torque. The Atto 2 EV accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 7.9 seconds and offers a top speed of 170kph.
The BYD Atto 2 DM-i, the plug-in hybrid version, features a 97hp 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with either a 7.8kWh or an 18kWh battery packs. Both variants use a 197hp front-axle-mounted (FWD) electric motor. Its combined output stands at 212bhp and 300Nm. The PHEV offers a total a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 1,000km.
