BYD, the Chinese electric car manufacturer has started testing its small SUV, the BYD Atto 2 on the Indian roads. It is expected that the new electric compact SUV could be launched in the country. The new model will be positioned below the Atto 3, which is currently the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle in India.
The Chinese-spec BYD Atto 2 is called the Yuan Up. It is based on the BYD’s new third-generation electric car platform, called the e-Platform 3.0. In the global markets, the electric SUV is positioned between the Dolphin hatchback and the Atto 3 crossover.

In terms of proportions, the new BYD Atto 2 is 4310mm in length, 1830mm in width and 1675mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2620mm. Compared to the BYD Atto 3, the electric SUV is 140mm shorter in length and comparable with Tata Curvv EV, Maruti e Vitara and the Hyundai Creta Electric.
The BYD Atto 2 is packed with the brand’s 45kWh, lithium-iron-phosphate Blade battery with a front-axle-mounted electric motor rated at 175bhp and 290Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer an NEDC-rated range of 380km.
The Atto 2 looks like a smaller version of the Atto 3. Its front fascia has a flowing LED headlights and black bar with silver trim. The electric SUV gets intertwined tail-lights, a floating roof, and boxy design. Inside the cabin, the BYD Atto 2 gets a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, wireless charging pad, and a crystal gear selector. It is equipped with features like a panoramic sunroof, power adjustable front seats with ventilation and heated functions, and leatherette upholstery.
