BYD Atto 2 could be the brand’s most affordable EV in India. The compact electric SUV may launch around Rs 20 lakh. It could rival Hyundai Creta Electric and Tata Sierra EV.
BYD is preparing to expand its presence in India with a new electric SUV that could make the brand more accessible to a wider audience. The upcoming BYD Atto 2 EV is expected to sit below the Atto 3 in the company’s lineup and could become its most affordable electric vehicle in the Indian market.
Currently, BYD’s India portfolio includes models like the Atto 3, Seal, e6 and Sealion 7, but most of them are positioned in the premium segment. With the Atto 2, the company could target a larger customer base by entering the popular mid-size electric SUV space.

The BYD Atto 2 is expected to compete in one of the fastest-growing segments in India. Once launched, it could take on upcoming and existing electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV, Mahindra BE 6 and other mid-size EVs.
The SUV measures around 4.3 metres in length, making it smaller than the Atto 3. It has a width of 1.8 metres, a height of 1.7 metres and a wheelbase of around 2.6 metres. Despite its compact dimensions, the Atto 2 offers SUV-like proportions with a tall stance and spacious cabin layout.
BYD could position the Atto 2 as a more affordable alternative to its current EV lineup. The electric SUV is expected to be priced around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), which would make it significantly more accessible than the Atto 3.
The lower pricing could help BYD attract buyers looking for a premium electric SUV experience without moving into the higher price brackets. However, the company is expected to assemble the SUV using imported kits, which could limit how aggressively it can price the model.
Internationally, the BYD Atto 2 is offered with multiple battery and motor options.
The SUV is available with:
Battery pack options include 32 kWh, 45.12 kWh, 51.1 kWh and 64.8 kWh LFP units. The top-spec version delivers a claimed range of up to 430 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
For India, BYD is expected to introduce the fully electric version only, as the plug-in hybrid variant may not make financial sense in this segment.
The launch of the Atto 2 could play an important role in BYD’s India expansion plans. While the company has built a strong reputation globally, its growth in India has been limited due to high import costs and a smaller premium EV market. A more affordable SUV could allow BYD to compete directly with mainstream electric vehicle manufacturers. The Atto 2 will also strengthen BYD’s position as more buyers move towards electric SUVs in India.
BYD has not officially confirmed the Atto 2 launch for India yet, but reports suggest that the compact electric SUV could arrive in the coming months. Alongside the Atto 2, BYD is also preparing the Seal U plug-in hybrid SUV for India, which will target a more premium segment.
