Honda Alpha EV global debut on December 2 New sub-4 meter SUV launch expected in 2028
Honda Cars India is preparing to launch a wide range of new models in the Indian market. After introducing the Elevate, the Japanese automaker is adding two crucial SUVs - an all-electric midsize SUV named the Honda Alpha and an all-new sub-4-metre compact SUV to its India line-up. Here is a simple look at Honda’s two upcoming SUVs in the Indian market -
Global Debut: December 2, 2026
Expected India Launch: Early 2027
Estimated Price: Rs 18 lakh - Rs 24 lakh
Key Rivals: Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV and Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq
Manufacturing Hub: Manufactured at Tapukara Plant in Rajasthan
Battery Options: Expected 60 kWh and 70 kWh LFP battery packs
Expected Range: 450 km to 500+ km on a single charge

First Made-in India Global EV: The Honda Alpha will be manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara production facility in Rajasthan for domestic as well as export markets.
Dedicated EV Platform: Instead of using an existing ICE platform, the Honda Alpha EV is built on a dedicated electric architecture derived from the 0 Alpha concept shown at the Japan Mobility Show. The SUV will have a wheelbase of around 2,700 - 2,800mm, with a focus on offering maximum interior space.
Key Details: The new Alpha is currently undergoing extensive real-world testing across India. The Alpha EV features a boxy silhouette, flat bonnet, squared-off wheel arches, and an upright tailgate. It has full-width horizontal LED light bars at the front and vertically-stacked LED tail-lamps, and 18-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels.
Interiors: Inside the cabin, the electric SUV will have a landscape-oriented central touchscreen infotainment unit paired with a standalone digital driver’s display. It is likely to get ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, wireless smartphone connectivity, and Honda Sensing Level 2 ADAS.
Expected Launch: 2028
Estimated Price: Rs 8 lakh - Rs 15 lakh
Key Rivals: Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO
Expected Engine: Horse-Powertrain Sourced 1.2L petrol engine, Hybrid Engine

Tata Technologies and Honda Partnership: Honda is closed working with Tata Technologies to develop vehicles specifically for the Indian market. The Japanese brand is looking to reduce vehicle development cost by up to 20 per cent, and development time by half.
Engine Option: Honda is reportedly partnered with Horse Powertrain to source a 1.2L turbo petrol engine to power its compact SUV. Horse Powertrain is also planning to locally develop its new engines in India. Adding to it, the new compact SUV is also expected to be offered with a strong hybrid powertrain.
