New Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Launched – Bigger Than the Standard GLC

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric launched at Rs 78.50 lakh. It gets a 94kWh battery with a claimed range of 711km. The electric SUV produces 483bhp and 800Nm.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new GLC Electric in India at an introductory price of Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric SUV is locally manufactured at the company's Chakan plant near Pune and is currently available in a single fully loaded GLC 400 4MATIC variant. The new GLC Electric is based on Mercedes-Benz's dedicated MB.EA-M platform. It gets a larger body, a high-tech cabin and a claimed driving range of up to 711km on the WLTP cycle.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Design and Dimensions

The GLC Electric gets a fresh design that sets it apart from the petrol and diesel-powered GLC. It features a large chrome-lined front grille with 942 dotted LEDs. The grille also offers a light display when the SUV is unlocked. Other design highlights include illuminated three-pointed stars in the Digital Light headlamps, wraparound LED tail-lamps and puddle lamps that project the Mercedes-Benz logo onto the ground. The electric SUV measures 4,856mm in length, 1,913mm in width and 1,652mm in height. It has a long 2,972mm wheelbase, making it larger than the regular GLC in every dimension. Customers can choose from six colour options: Obsidian Black, Lavender Silver, Alpine Grey Solid, Patagonia Red Metallic, Opalite White Bright and Sheer Blue.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Interior and Features

The biggest highlight inside the GLC Electric is its 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. It combines three displays, including a digital driver's screen, a central touchscreen and a front passenger display, under one large glass panel. The SUV also gets an electrochromic glass roof with nine switchable sections and illuminated stars. Other features include adaptive ambient lighting, a 15-speaker Burmester 3D sound system and two wireless phone charging pads. The floating centre console creates extra storage space underneath and also houses the cupholders and charging pads. However, the India-spec model misses out on ventilated seats and rear sunshades. It gets heated seats instead. The SUV also does not offer air suspension or rear-wheel steering, which are available in some international versions. The GLC Electric offers 570 litres of boot space, which can be increased to 1,740 litres by folding down the rear seats.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Battery, Power and Range

The GLC 400 4MATIC uses a 94kWh NMC battery pack and an 800V electrical architecture. It gets two electric motors that produce a combined 483bhp and 800Nm of torque. With this setup, the electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 210kmph. Mercedes-Benz claims a driving range of up to 711km on a single charge, as per the WLTP cycle.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Charging Options

The GLC Electric supports DC fast charging at up to 330kW. It also comes with a 22kW AC wallbox charger as standard, which can fully charge the battery in under seven hours. Customers who do not need the home charger can opt for an energy credit card worth 2,500kWh. These credits can be used at public fast-charging stations across India.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Rivals

The new GLC Electric currently has no direct rival in India. The upcoming BMW iX3, expected to arrive in 2027, is likely to become one of its key competitors. With local production, a large touchscreen cabin and a claimed range of over 700km, the GLC Electric adds a new option to India's growing luxury EV market.
