Maruti's second electric vehicle will debut in February 2027. The new model could be a three-row electric MPV. It is expected to rival the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to expand its electric vehicle range in India. The company has confirmed that its second battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2027. While Maruti has not revealed the model yet, recent spy shots suggest that it could be an electric MPV. Currently known by the codename YMC, the upcoming model could become the brand’s first electric people carrier and rival the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
The upcoming electric MPV is expected to be developed as a completely new product. Like the e Vitara, it is likely to be manufactured in India for both right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive markets. Maruti has not shared any details about its design, battery pack or driving range. However, the YMC could offer a practical three-row layout, making it suitable for families looking for an electric vehicle with more seating space. The company could also use familiar names such as Ertiga or XL6 for the new model. This may help customers connect the electric MPV with Maruti’s existing range of people carriers.

If launched as an electric MPV, the YMC will take on the Kia Carens Clavis EV. The Kia model is currently one of the few electric people carriers available in the Indian market. The MPV segment has always been popular among Indian buyers because it offers three-row seating and good practicality at a relatively affordable price. These vehicles are also widely used in the fleet and taxi markets. An electric MPV from Maruti could attract both private buyers and fleet operators, especially if it offers a competitive price and a practical driving range.
Maruti Suzuki is not planning to focus on electric vehicles alone. The company has already spoken about its multi-powertrain strategy for India. Its future line-up will include battery electric vehicles, strong hybrids, petrol models and vehicles running on CNG and compressed biogas (CBG). The upcoming electric MPV will be an important part of this plan. More details about its name, design, features, battery pack and launch timeline are expected to emerge in the coming months.
