Maruti could expand its EV range with a smaller model. The Tata Punch EV could be a potential rival. The new EV’s name, range and launch date remain unconfirmed.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to expand its electric vehicle range beyond the e Vitara, with a smaller electric car potentially in development for the Indian market. The upcoming model could target the affordable electric SUV segment, where the Tata Punch EV is one of the key options.
While Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed the name or body style of its next small EV, the company’s plans to expand its electric portfolio have raised expectations of a more accessible electric vehicle. The new model could help Maruti reach customers looking for a compact EV for daily city use.
Maruti Suzuki entered India’s electric SUV segment with the e Vitara. A smaller EV would allow the company to target a different price bracket and reach a wider group of customers. The upcoming model could take the form of a compact electric SUV or crossover. However, its design, dimensions and positioning have not been officially confirmed.
There has also been speculation about a possible Fronx-based electric car or an electric version of the Brezza. Neither model has been confirmed for production, so the identity of Maruti’s next small EV remains unknown.

If Maruti Suzuki introduces a compact electric SUV at a competitive price, the Tata Punch EV could become one of its key rivals. The Punch EV has helped establish Tata Motors in the compact electric vehicle segment. A similarly sized Maruti EV could compete on factors such as price, driving range, cabin space, features and ownership costs.
However, the comparison will depend on the final body style, specifications and pricing of Maruti’s upcoming model. There is no confirmed information about these details yet.
Maruti Suzuki has not revealed the battery capacity, electric motor output or driving range of its potential smaller EV. The company could focus on a battery and powertrain setup suited to everyday commuting, but the technical details remain unknown. Charging speed, charging time and the availability of different battery options have also not been announced. More information about the powertrain should become available once Maruti confirms the model and its development plans.
Reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki could reveal another electric vehicle in 2027. However, it remains unclear whether this will be the smaller EV or the YMC three-row electric MPV, which is also expected to arrive around that time. The company has not announced a launch date, expected price or official name for its next small electric car.
